Katie Poirier, Registered Psychologist

Katie Poirier, Registered Psychologist Supporting individuals navigating disruptions in their relationship to food and body. Hi there!

A compassionate, inclusive approach to exploring your inner world with curiosity and care. I'm Katie Poirier, a Registered Psychologist working in Edmonton, Alberta. I graduated from the University of Alberta with my Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology in 2014. In this role, I believe my priority is to hold what is well in my clients and help them find what they want to flourish. Over the past 9 years, I have worked effectively with people experiencing trauma-related effects and addictions, including eating disorders. I value working with both individuals struggling with trauma/eating disorders and their supporters such as parents, partners, and friends. I believe in helping clients grow and flourish through a client-centered framework that emphasizes equality and empowerment. I bring compassion and humour to therapy, and strive to create a safe place for all to be heard. My particular passions and areas of specialty are in the realm of eating disorders, sexual trauma, and perinatal struggles. I worked at the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton for two years, and have been running support groups with the Eating Disorder Support Network of Edmonton (EDSNA) since 2016. I also worked at Pine Integrated Health Centre, a perinatal-focused clinic, over the last several years. The therapeutic modalities that inform my practice include Emotion Focused Family
Therapy (EFFT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART, a trauma-based therapy). To read more about my work, events and workshops I am running, etc, please visit my website. I also post upcoming events and material on my Instagram - .

As you look ahead, I invite you, your colleagues, and organizations to reflect on where support and growth may be needed in the upcoming year. If deeper consultation and reflection around body shame, trauma, or disrupted relationships with food and body feel like meaningful edges of growth, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you.

Reach out via email or my website and I’ll be in touch early January. 😌

So many of us learn early on to manage pain by controlling, perfecting, or disconnecting.
I specialize in supporting people whose trauma and attachment wounds have taken root in how they relate to food and body, helping them return to trust, safety, and self-compassion.
