Finding a Place to Belong 💛

Last week, participants and staff from Calgary had the opportunity to watch the powerful documentary A Place Where I Belong, directed by Rheanna Troy.

The film explored the often-overlooked barriers that people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities face when expressing their sexuality and gender identity. It sparked meaningful conversations about inclusion, understanding, and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

Together, we reflected on how 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations can become more accessible, and how care providers can create thoughtful policies that empower individuals to explore and express their identities with confidence and dignity.

It was a meaningful reminder that true inclusion means ensuring everyone has a place where they belong. We’re grateful to Cloudstreet Media for helping bring this important story to the screen.

💙 Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness Day 💙

Today, our community came together to recognize Autism Awareness Day in a meaningful and inspiring way. Participants and staff showed their support by wearing blue and taking part in engaging Autism Awareness workshops.

It was incredible to see everyone come together to learn more about autism, build understanding, and celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives of individuals on the spectrum. From thoughtful discussions to shared moments of connection, the day was filled with learning, compassion, and community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make today so special. Together, we continue to create a more inclusive and supportive world for all. 💙

💜 Epilepsy Awareness Day 💜

Today, we stand together in support, understanding, and advocacy for individuals living with epilepsy. Our program participants proudly wore purple to show their support and help spark important conversations around this often misunderstood condition.

Epilepsy Awareness Day is important because it helps break down stigma, increase understanding, and promote inclusion. By raising awareness, we can create safer, more supportive communities where individuals with epilepsy feel seen, respected, and empowered. It’s also an opportunity to share knowledge about seizure recognition and support, something that can truly make a difference in someone’s life.

We’re proud to see our community come together in purple, showing that even small actions can have a big impact 💕

🧱 Building More Than Just LEGO Creations

Our LEGO Workshop is about so much more than building structures; it’s about building real-life skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Through hands-on activities, participants strengthen important skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. Following instructions and planning designs also helps build focus, patience, and independence.

Working with LEGO pieces supports the development of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination skills that are essential for everyday tasks like writing, using technology, preparing food, and completing workplace activities.

This program also encourages creativity and self-expression, while giving individuals the opportunity to practice decision-making, stay organized, and see a project through from start to finish, building confidence along the way. 🦋

At Chrysalis, we believe learning should be engaging, practical, and empowering, and this workshop helps turn small steps into meaningful progress.

💻 Building Confidence Through Computer Literacy 💡

At Chrysalis, our Employment Program is helping individuals with disabilities gain the digital skills they need to succeed in today’s workplace.

Through our Computer Literacy Workshop, participants learn how to use Google Suite and so much more to:
📄 Create and organize documents
📅 Schedule and manage meetings
📧 Navigate and manage emails

This program goes beyond the basics, empowering individuals to grow their confidence, increase independence, and take meaningful steps toward employment.

🧦 Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day 💙💛

Today we’re celebrating World Down Syndrome Day by embracing what makes each of us unique.

Across our programs, participants showed their support by rocking bright, fun, and mismatched socks, a simple but powerful way to spark conversations and spread awareness. From themed activities to lots of laughter, it was a day full of connection, inclusion, and joy.

World Down Syndrome Day is a reminder that diversity makes our communities stronger. When we celebrate differences, we create spaces where everyone belongs.

Join us in spreading awareness, and don’t forget to wear your boldest socks! 🧦✨
