Misinformation about mental health can stop people from reaching out for support. Let’s set the record straight💙

Support looks different for everyone. If you or someone you love is struggling, talk to your primary care provider. They can connect you with the right resources, including a referral to a psychologist, psychiatrist, or behavioural health consultant depending on your unique needs and lifestyle goals. About 1 in 4 cancer deaths in Canada is caused by lung cancer, making it the country’s leading cause of cancer death.*

This Lung Cancer Awareness Month, know the signs that should never be ignored:

➡️ Chest pain that lingers
➡️ A cough that doesn’t go away
➡️ Coughing up blood
➡️ Frequent bouts of pneumonia or bronchitis
➡️ Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
➡️ Feeling tired all the time

In Alberta, eligible adults can use the Screen for Life self-assessment tool to see if they qualify for lung cancer screening. Prevention also plays a major role, reducing your risks can significantly lower your chance of developing lung cancer. For more information about screening and prevention, visit the ‘Lung’ category at screeningforlife.ca.

Most importantly, if something feels “off”, don’t wait — talk to your primary care provider.

Protect your hearing this summer. Big sound, big fun 🔊 but also a big risk. Whether you’re headed to a concert, stadium or street festival, noise levels can spike above 100 decibels, which is enough to cause permanent hearing damage in just 15 minutes.

You can protect your ears by:
- Bringing earplugs
- Taking breaks away from the speakers
- Choosing a spot that’s further from the stage or sound system

These small steps can help you enjoy the moment without putting your long-term hearing at risk. Once hearing is damaged, it doesn’t come back. Take care now so you can keep enjoying music, conversation and connection for years to come.

Concerned about your hearing? Talk to your primary care provider for more information about what else you can do to protect your ears!

Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days; it’s an important part of your daily routine, especially in the summer. Whether you're walking the dog, gardening, or running errands, UV rays can damage your skin.

Remember to:
✔️ Choose broad-spectrum: Look for SPF 30 or higher with protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
✔️ Apply generously: Adults need about 30 mL for full-body coverage (about the size of a golf ball).
✔️ Reapply every 2 hours or more often if you're sweating or swimming.
✔️ Don’t forget the details: Ears, neck, tops of feet and the backs of hands are often missed.

Talk to your primary care provider if you have sensitive skin or are taking medications that increase sun sensitivity.

Protect your skin now and thank yourself later. ☀️
