I’ve been quiet. Quietly working away on living my dreams of becoming a nurse. And guess what? I did the thing I’ve always dreamt about. For now I don’t know what this means for continuing to doula BUT I am always happy to answer questions and refer to other amazing doulas if I can’t take on any new families. Thank you to all my past doula families for welcoming me into your homes, and hearts for so many years. Now onto finding an amazing and fulfilling nursing career in a wild healthcare climate.

Just a little brief over view! We have to do better!!
I have always came from the place that birth is more about the experience of safety and support than the actual mode of birth.
I would like to believe that always coming from a trauma informed lens would mean that my families would come out of birth without trauma….and this simply isn’t true since trauma is such an individualized experience.
However, I always hope that having me as a support decreases the impact of trauma that they do feel. But we really never know as they don’t have a same experience without me there.
Trauma work is hard work. And I don’t believe we can be in this space without a good understanding of how to respond to birth trauma.
We have some incredible local resources for trauma. Please reach out if you are needing some resources. I hope these tips were helpful!
Did your doula support you, in some capacity, after your birth trauma?

Tiny Footprints YEG needs volunteers!
This is a big, entirely volunteer-run event that takes many hands to put together, and we can’t do it alone. Here are just a few ways you can help:
✨ Picking up silent auction item or wine wall donations
✨ Reaching out to potential sponsors or donors
✨ Setup/teardown on the event date
✨ Run the check-in table at the event
✨ Help run the silent auction before/at the event
These are just a few of the many tasks that require many hands. Interested in taking part and joining the Tiny Footprints YEG committee? Send us a DM or email us at tinyfootprintsyeg@gmail.com! 🙏🏻

Over 7 years ago we welcomed our first son into this world and 19 months later his sister came along. It took me some time to process her birth and all the “what ifs” and although we were both safe and healthy I spent the next few weeks in tears. How could it have gone differently I wondered? What would have happened if I would have asked more questions about induction? Do other women feel confused after a birth that wasn’t exactly like they imagined? These questions lead me to search out what I was missing and that lead me jumping head first into a doula program. I had just signed up when no sooner we found we were pregnant again...and this time I would be more prepared then ever before. So I hit the ground running, 2 little kids, working full time, attending births and studying. I completed my doula studies and received my certificate just weeks before baby number 3 arrived. Baby number 3 lead me on a path of kindness, respect and compassion for the postpartum period and also incredible wonder for the amazing organ that is the placenta. So I dove head first into learning all about placenta encapsulation. What an incredible organ. It really is the first thing mom and baby will ever do together. How cool is that? I then embarked on a journey to become a Child Birth Educator, and cant say enough about the value of childbirth classes....but more on that later. I finished my maternity leave and again returned to work....11 weeks pregnant with baby #4. I applied and was excepted into midwifery care. Having a midwife was always my plan but sadly I caved and could not stand up to the nay sayers....so this time I was doing it my way....and they were lovely. In true me fashion I embarked on another doula journey and became dual certified as a birth doula....and then a postpartum doula during the fourth pregnancy. It was a happy ending for me. I was able to have a beautiful waterbirth at home surrounded by some strong fierce women(doula, photographer, best friend) and my husband by my side. This final baby had a wonderful beginning and I was over joyed.
Birth is truly a trans formative experience. Not only do you birth a baby but you birth a parent. I have been blessed to have been at the side of many families as they welcomes their little ones earth side. Each birth is precious and unique, and I am here to support your BEST birth. Because everyone deserves to feel empowered on this memorable day!
Thank you for taking the time to tale a peek at my page. I look forward to joining you on this journey.
