It's !
Millions of people with diabetes face daily challenges managing their condition in the workplace, including stigma, discrimination and exclusion.
This has a negative impact on their well-being.
That's why this year's focus is "know more and do more for diabetes at work".
How can employers know more? They can facilitate educational resources like:
-Offering on-site screening for diabetes to help with early detection.
-Including information on diabetes prevention and management in workplace wellness communications.
-Providing information and signpost employees to external organizations for further support and resources.
How can employers do more? They can provide reasonable accommodations such as:
- Allow employees to take breaks to check blood sugar levels, take medication, or inject insulin.
-Provide a quiet, private area for these activities, including a designated place for disposing of needles safely.
-Have a place where employees can rest if they experience symptoms of low blood sugar.
-Have healthy food options available, create opportunities for movement, and provide access to mental health resources.
