"I never would have thought that I would ever be having this opportunity."

Angela Parisian is one of six Mill Woods residents whose portrait now hangs inside the Covenant Community Health Centre and her reaction to being chosen says everything about who she is.

As the Indigenous care liaison at Grey Nuns hospital, Angela shows up for patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.

From smudging ceremonies to translating medical language to simply sitting beside someone who needs comfort.

She provides the care she wished her own loved ones had.

No Easter eggs this year. We did something different. 🦋

At the Misericordia hospital, our volunteers folded origami butterflies by hand for patients. Each one tucked into a basket with a personal note wishing patients renewed health and energy.

Legend has it that when you whisper a wish to a butterfly, it carries that wish to God.

To our volunteers: thank you for the time, the care and every single fold! 👏

How do you respond when asked "Am I going to be okay?" This workshop helps build the skills to respond with clarity, compassion and confidence.

Serious illness conversations are some of the most important (and difficult) moments in health care. Yet most providers have never had formal training in how to navigate them.

At Engaged & Empowered 2026, Therapeutic Communication: Strategies for Navigating Difficult Conversations is a workshop that gives you the communication frameworks, confidence and hands-on practice you need to have these conversations with skill and compassion.

You'll work through realistic scenarios to:

✅Improve comfort
✅Build understanding
✅Develop practical skills

All for the conversations that matter most.

Led by Charlotte Oostveen, Sheila Killoran and Dr. Leonie Herx.

Fresh flowers can brighten even the hardest hospital day.💐

At the Grey Nuns, a new Florans floral vending machine, introduced through the Associates of Caritas, gives families, staff and visitors a simple way to share comfort and care.

And every purchase goes even further.

Proceeds through the Associates of Caritas support comfort items and equipment across our sites, with more than $11.3 million donated back since 2016.

A reminder that care can bloom in more ways than one.🌼

Neurological conditions often require ongoing care, specialized expertise and strong care coordination. 🧠

For many patients, accessing that care can mean travelling across the city.

New neurology services at the Covenant Community Health Centre are helping change that.

Patients in southeast Edmonton can now access specialized care closer to home — making it easier to connect with the support they need.

7 years is a long time to live inside a health care system.

Most of us only see it from the outside.

After years of living in continuing care, John Miller knows what it feels like when dignity is honoured, autonomy is respected and when a small moment of genuine human connection changes the weight of an entire day.

That's what he'll bring to the stage at Engaged & Empowered 2026: Advancing Person-Centred Care Summit.

❌Not data
❌Not theory
✅Lived truth

His words will challenge every care provider, leader and advocate in the room to look at the small moments differently. Because in continuing care, the small moments are the care.

Join us on April 27–28, 2026 at the Edmonton EXPO Centre.

If you work in health care, lead a team or care about the people inside our system, this is the room you need to be in. 👇
