We are launching our first parenting series! With a focus on attunement & attachment, this group is inspired by the work of Gordon Neufeld and Gabor Maté. 🪴🧑‍🧒‍🧒

Attachment roots are essential to us all. As humans, we are made to connect. If we can understand and acknowledge the development of these roots, as well as learn how to foster interional connection with these roots in mind, we can rejuvenate our intention behind connecting.

This theoretical framework provides us a refreshed perspective as parents to give us the words and language behind our efforts in connecting with our children.

As a parent, you deserve to understand your efforts of attaching on a deeper level, to find what’s working and to gain knowledge in understanding where feeling “stuck” may occur in relation to the development of the attachment roots.

This group will involve a combination of psychoeducation and holding space to explore your story & connect with others.

Because the reality is, the complexities of this world are real, & seeing them for what they are can be validating - and even healing.

Are you up for a challenge? Incorporate the word “and” into your vocabulary instead of the word “but”.

Open yourself up to dialectical language, when speaking to yourself or hearing out your loved ones. Notice how this subtle yet significant difference can hold space, and create change! Now there’s a dialectic in itself 😉🧐🙌

A timely post as I head off on vacation for the week! Time to recharge my battery & accumulate some positives with my loved ones🪫➡️🔋

Here are some tips and tricks to help you cope when a therapist is on vacation… you are important, we are important and it’s important to practice what we preach! 💆‍♀️🙌🫶🏻

Oh and to add some DBT flare, completion of diary cards can help us all upon return to debrief events, and witness your skillfulness! 😎🤩

Life sure knows how to throw curveballs at us… am I right?! 😅 Hence why it’s so important to balance the scale to make those challenges more durable.

Accumulating positives is a DBT Skill that helps us to be present, experience joy and other pleasant emotions to fill our buckets. So when we have bucket dippers, we’re not totally drained or depleted.

And guess what… doing one thing for yourself each and every day isn’t so bad.. it’s kind of nice and frees you of the restriction to “deserve” or “earn” good things. You are worthy, you are deserving of pleasant emotions without any conditions.

What is something you can commit to doing once a day, just for you? 🥰🫶🏻

Dialectical thinking helps us to step away from all or nothing or black & white thinking! It helps us to acknowledge multiple truths because things aren’t always straightforward! When we can adjust our perspective, avenues open up… pain can exist with relief, sorrow can exist with joy and so on and so forth! We can value where we are and see a path forward. Did you know that not all therapy is the same?! I will be the first to say that I needed education around this matter- and wow, does it make a difference to have awareness to determine what aligns with you.

There is a wide range of approaches, and while during learning and in training, psychologists choose approaches that align with how they view the world and problems within the world.

Choosing an approach that aligns with my world helps me to practice what I preach. Evidence-based approaches are essential to knowing there is research behind a therapy’s effectiveness, and having unique and applicable experiences gives context as to how these concepts are applied in real world settings. This is important to me and it may be important to you!

A few key insights from these approaches…
- life can be worth living even when pain is present
- we cannot avoid pain, but we can avoid suffering
- we can rewire our neural networks fr. auto responses
- there are functions underlying behaviours
- we can take essential information from emotions
- dual or multiple truths can and do exist
- agency and autonomy are essential to healing
- attachment is a core human need &,we are wired to connect, no matter what it takes!

These are a few examples as to how the approaches work and compliment one another. 🧩💡

Hi! 👋 & Welcome 🤗
My name is Ashley and I am so excited to be sharing this endeavour with you! 💫

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the role emotions play in shaping our experiences- not only from how we react to them, but in how they guide, inform and enrich our lives through both the highs and the lows. I came to understand that emotions are not obstacles to overcome- they are powerful signals, offering insight, connection and even healing when we learn to listen to them with compassion.

That understanding sparked something deep in me. I knew in my heart that I wanted to spend my life helping others explore and honour their emotional world- to feel validated and empowered.

Personally, I grew up on the East Coast, in a culture deeply rooted in connection, relationships and community. That environment helped shape my belief in the importance of showing up for one another- whole-heartedly. It’s this relational spirit that I bring into my therapy room: a space where curiosity and openness are used with intention to be fully seen, supported and met exactly where you are.

I am here to serve residents of Alberta in-person and on a virtual basis. & residents of New-Brunswick, on a virtual basis only.
