Seven years later.
Well over $40K in tuition and immeasurable expenses on top of that.
It took 50 flights, multiple ferry boats, road trips and a long train ride to get there.
I moved from Campbell River to Fort McMurray and later to Edmonton. I tried to study while feeling displaced - I was living in one province while training and occasionally doing locum work in another.
I stayed in sketchy Airbnbs and micro suites and crashed on friend’s couches.
I paused during the pandemic and had to travel to another campus to make up courses when I got sick.
I spent way too much time away from my kitties and lost out on time with friends and community. I gave up opportunities and self care because I simply couldn’t juggle it all.
I experienced significant grief, loss and trauma over those years. Then after finishing my training, I immediately had to focus on escaping an abusive relationship and rebuilding my life.
I was still in the thick of it when my school closed and I was given a short notice opportunity to complete my training.
Through blood, sweat and many, MANY tears, I pushed through.
Last week - against so many odds - I submitted my final Case Study. Today I was given my presentation date and I am that much closer to finally finishing my DOMP 🙌💜
