This week's wellness suggestion is to "Share support and responsibilities so one employee can have a break and other employees can understand the stressors of that role." Thank you to the Alberta helping professional who suggested that excellent strategy. Indeed, finding ways to empathize with fellow employees, not to mention clients, is what helping professionals are most proud of. It's a passion thing. It is also a great approach to because it focuses everyone's attention on job requirements.

In this week's blog we look at human services software. We examine the definition of human services software, and then at considerations for evaluating software, and at some examples. Finally, we look at the broader conversation about human services software tools and an example of a blog on technology in human services. This week's wellness suggestion is to "Provide staff with tools to support clients, aka computers/tablets/increased mobility or less paperwork" Thank you to the Alberta helping professional who suggested that excellent strategy. We all need a break from the steady, grinding reality of the COVID crisis, and so the advice for today is to “take a step back: respond vs react.”
Helping professionals with the skills to respond instead of react can “flip” stressful situations. It also reminds us that chaotic events don’t have to dominate our thinking, we have to step out of the clutter, and focus on what we are doing, thinking, and feeling in the moment.”
A good example of this is to count to ten, take a breath, walk around, relax your muscles, or collect your thoughts before continuing in a stressful situation.
Instead of reacting–with anger, fear, frustration, impatience, annoyance, guilt, or depression–you respond by “stepping out” and waiting for a response.

A reminder to be mindful is something that we can all use during these times.

Task organization is a great way to think about the people who need you during crisis times. Task organization is also a great approach to because it can mitigate the harmful effect of role ambiguity and isolation brought on by social and work distancing.
