Parkland Lodge

Parkland Lodge Parkland Lodge has been built to offer spacious living areas designed for daily enjoyment, activities, and relaxation.

Residents can spend time walking through the beautiful gardens, paths, and gazebos just outside the doors, or head indoors to read a book in the library, play pool, or watch their favourite shows on the large-screen TV. The staff at the lodge spend time getting to know residents and their interests, carefully planning activities that spark creativity, community, and well being.

🎨 Watercolor Fun with Karen! 🌹
Today we channeled our inner artists and spent the afternoon waterpainting with Karen… and look at these beautiful roses! Who knew we had so many hidden Picassos in the lodge? 😉
With Karen’s wonderful instruction (and a little patience with our paintbrushes), everyone created their own amazing masterpiece. There were a few “happy little accidents” along the way, but that just adds to the charm of watercolor!
A big thank you to the Parkland Auxiliary whose generous donations make these wonderful activities possible. Because of their support, our residents get to enjoy creative afternoons like this that truly enrich the lives of our seniors. ❤️
We had a fantastic time painting, laughing, and admiring each other’s artwork. Careful though… at this rate we may need to open our own Parkland Art Gallery! 🎨

♣️♦️ March Cribbage Tournament at the Lodge! ♥️♠️
Another legendary cribbage battle went down at the lodge, and let’s just say… there were cards flying, pegs moving, and a few wounded egos by the end of the day! 😆
🏆 1st Place: Harold & Jean M. — clearly these two came to play and weren’t messing around!
🥈 2nd Place: Barry & Les — hot on their heels and keeping the pressure on the whole time.
🥉 3rd Place: Bill & Rick — proving once again that experience (and maybe a little luck!) goes a long way.
Now every tournament needs a little “character building,” and this month the B***y Prize went to Mike & Joanne… who took the loss like true sports! 😂
And a very special achievement award goes to Susan & Roza, who managed the impressive feat of losing a game with 44 points against them! That takes a special kind of determination… or possibly some very stubborn cards!
As always, there was lots of laughter, friendly trash talk, and just enough competition to keep things interesting.
Thanks to everyone who came out and played! We’ll shuffle the deck and do it all again in May for our next Cribbage Tournament.
Better start practicing… some of you clearly need it! 😉

🚨 SENIORS ON TOUR! 🚨
We loaded up the bus and headed to the city for our very first Oil Kings hockey game… and let me tell you, we were not mentally prepared for sharing the arena with 18,000 screaming kids! 😆 Our ears may never be the same again!
Now, we tried to act calm and dignified… but a few of us may have gotten caught up in the excitement and joined in with a little hootin’, hollerin’, and enthusiastic cheering. Don’t worry—we kept it mostly respectable! 🏒
After all that excitement and what felt like walking 14 miles through Rogers Place, the old appetites kicked in hard. So we made a very important stop at Bing’s in Spruce Grove for some Chinese food. Let’s just say… those plates didn’t stand a chance! 🥡
The bus ride home was a different story… lots of bobbing heads, heavy eyelids, and a few Olympic-level snores coming from the back rows. Who knew cheering and eating could be so exhausting?! 😴
All in all, it was a loud, chaotic, belly-filling, memory-making kind of day… and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our first week has surpassed our expectations. We are very grateful for the community and the support.

Today we wanted to give back to the community and bring the residents & staff of Parkland Lodge a treat to have with their afternoon coffee. We would also like to give a huge shout out to O.W. Baking for supplying these delicious cookies!

Today we had an absolute blast making beautiful handmade cards with our Cricut guru, the one and only Eva Drysdale! If there were an Olympic event for crafting, Eva would be bringing home the gold 🥇
From delicate florals to layered birthday masterpieces (and let’s not forget those perfectly placed sparkly gems 💎), these are the gorgeous cards we created. Who knew a little cardstock, some glue sticks, and a lot of laughter could turn into such stunning works of art?
There may have been a few “oops” moments… a couple crooked stickers… and at least one debate about where exactly a rhinestone should go — but that’s all part of the creative process, right? 😉
A huge thank you to Eva for sharing her talent and patience with us. We are officially card-making pros… or at least confident enough to sign the inside! 💌💙

What an incredibly special afternoon attending “Jake’s Gift” at the Red Brick Arts Centre & Museum ❤️
We were first treated to an outstanding performance by the Edson Pipes & Drums, who opened the event in honour of the Royal Canadian Legion celebrating their 100th year. The sound of the pipes filled the room with pride and remembrance — there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. 🇨🇦
Then came “Jake’s Gift”, written and performed by the incredibly talented Julia Mackey. This beautiful one-woman play tells the touching story of a conversation between a young child and a veteran. The way she so seamlessly moves between characters, you truly believe you are watching two separate people on stage.
Her heartfelt, thought-provoking portrayal captures a powerful moment in time — one that gently reminds us of sacrifice, connection, and the importance of remembering. It was emotional, meaningful, and absolutely worth the watch.
We are so grateful to have experienced such a moving tribute. If you ever have the opportunity to see “Jake’s Gift,” don’t miss it. It’s a story that stays with you long after the curtain falls. ❤️

The Mazur Polish-Canadian Dancers Society of Edmonton brought such a special experience to the residents with their beautiful traditional dances and songs. Sharing Polish heritage through music and movement always creates such a warm, uplifting atmosphere.

What a meaningful way to spend the day — I’m sure the residents truly enjoyed every moment! 🇵🇱✨

🧠🎉 Our 1st Family Trivia Night at the Lodge Was a HIT! 🎉🧠
Well… Maryn didn’t come to play — she came to put us ALL in the hot seat! 🔥😂 She had our brains working overtime with trivia questions that had us second-guessing everything we thought we knew. (Who knew we’d all suddenly forget basic facts under pressure?!)
After much head scratching, whispering, and a few very confident wrong answers… 🫣
🏆 The Shedders proved their brainpower is superior to all else and claimed 1st place! Not only did they earn ultimate bragging rights, but they also scored themselves a delicious gift certificate to Mountain Steak & Pizza 🍕🥩 (We expect a full review, of course!)
And let’s hear it for Dale Burgess, who took home the door prize — a handy dandy Walmart gift card! 🛒👏
We are so thankful for everyone who participated, cheered from the sidelines, and came out to support our very first Family Trivia Night. The laughter, friendly competition, and “OH I KNEW THAT!” moments made the night one to remember.
Start stretching those brain muscles now… because we cannot WAIT for the next Trivia Night! 🧠✨

Our Valentine’s Day lunch at Parkland Lodge was nothing short of special. The room was filled with laughter, warm hugs, and so many beautiful smiling faces. There is truly nothing better than seeing our residents surrounded by friends and family, sharing stories, sweet treats, and making memories together.
A huge heartfelt thank you to our amazing kitchen staff who pour so much love into each and every meal they prepare. You can taste the care in every bite, and we are so grateful for the effort you put into making days like this extra meaningful.
Moments like these remind us that love isn’t just about one day — it’s about community, friendship, and the joy of being together.
Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Parkland Lodge! ❤️

🎤💃 Lunch Hour? More Like POWER Hour! 💃🎤
Today we were treated to the absolutely amazing Dahlia Wakefield during our lunch hour, and let’s just say… the only thing better than the food was the fabulous vocals!
Dahlia had toes tapping, hands clapping, and a few of us ready to trade in our walkers for backup dancer auditions. 😉 Her voice filled the room with so much joy, energy, and a little bit of sparkle that we’re still smiling!
Nothing brightens up a day at the Lodge like live music — and Dahlia, you truly made our lunchtime unforgettable. Thank you for sharing your incredible talent and heart with us. 💕
We’ll be humming your songs all week long! 🎶✨

🃏♣️ FEBRUARY CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT RECAP – HOLD ON TO YOUR PEGS! ♣️🃏
Well folks… February’s Cribbage Tournament did NOT disappoint. There were cards flying, pegs slamming, and a few “friendly” accusations of card-counting (all in good fun of course 😉).
🥇 1st Place: The unstoppable Double D’s – Dian & Dorothy!
These ladies didn’t just play crib… they owned it. Cool, calm, and calculating. If cribbage had a Hall of Fame, they’d already have their plaque ordered.
🥈 2nd Place (and Overachievers of the Month): Bill & Rick!
Now these two fine gentlemen decided one prize simply wasn’t enough. Oh no. They proudly secured second place… AND a special bonus prize for losing a game by a jaw-dropping 61 points! 👏
Go big or go home, boys — and they went BIG.
🥉 3rd Place: A big congratulations to Lorna & Rena, who kept things steady and strong all afternoon. Consistency is key… and so is a good poker face!
🏆 B***y Prize: Mike & Joanna!
Every tournament needs heroes… and every tournament needs someone to keep us humble. Thank you for your service. 😂
What a fantastic afternoon of laughs, competition, and just a tiny bit of bragging rights.
Mark your calendars 📅 — we’re shuffling the deck again on March 7th!
Bring your lucky pegs, your game face, and maybe a calculator if you’re playing Bill & Rick.
See you at the tables!
