Student Opportunity – Summer 2026!

The Elliot Lake Family Health Team is excited to share that we’ve been approved for funding through the Northern Ontario Summer Studentship Program!

We are accepting student applications for:
Dietitian, Medical Student, RN, RPN and Pharmacist

Eligibility:
✔ Currently enrolled in a program related to the position
✔ Born in Northern Ontario or lived in Northern Ontario for 10 consecutive years

It is always a pleasure to have Rosie in Elliot Lake. Rosie, a 4th-year NOSM University medical student, first came to Elliot Lake for a 7-month clerkship placement and subsequently returned for an additional two weeks. During her brief stay, Rosie actively immersed herself in the community by participating in a mixed curling night, the city shopping night, a night out bowling, handing candy to the kids at the annual Santa Claus parade, and finising her two weeks in our community at the Elliot Lake Family Health Team's Christmas party. You will be missed!

Trivia Night Fun!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us last night for a fantastic Trivia Night, proudly hosted by The Elliot Lake Family Health Team!

It was a great evening of laughter, teamwork, and some seriously impressive trivia skills as we welcomed our newest NOSM University medical students to the community!

We’re excited to have seven 2nd-year students with us for the next two weeks, and three 3rd-year students who will be calling Elliot Lake home until March 2026!

Special thanks to the OR staff from St. Joseph’s General Hospital and our amazing Family Health Team members who came out to support and connect with the students — your presence made the night even more memorable

We’re proud to share some exciting news from our local healthcare community!

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Alexander Popa to St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake as the newest physician in the Emergency Department. His expertise and commitment will help strengthen emergency care for residents of Elliot Lake and the surrounding area.

is pleased to welcome Dr. Alexander Popa to our Emergency Department (ED) team on a two-year contract. Dr. Popa brings expertise in sports medicine and emergency care, with special interests in pain medicine and ultrasound-guided interventions.
He has been supporting our ED over the past several months and will continue to provide part-time coverage, helping us maintain 24/7 emergency services for the community.
When he’s not in the hospital, Dr. Popa enjoys motorcycling, hockey and basketball. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Popa to Elliot Lake!

We’re thrilled to welcome Max Robinson, Kristina Levert, and Celeste Dupuis, 3rd-year medical students from NOSM University, to our community for their 8-month clerkship program!

Friday afternoon the Elliot Family Health Team paid tribute to Dr. Barry Wannan for his unwavering dedication and remarkable contributions to the Elliot Lake community spanning over 50 years! Dr. Wannan will be retiring at the end of the summer, and we wish him immense happiness and a relaxing retirement, knowing he will be deeply missed by his colleagues, staff, and patients.
