We’re thrilled to spotlight Rilee Brown, one of our wonderful volunteers with Speech Community Huron Perth.

Rilee is a recent Child and Youth Studies graduate who is working toward a future in speech and communicative disorders. Her interest in this field began through her Early Childhood Language Acquisition and ASL courses during her undergraduate studies.
Rilee loves connecting with students, learning their interests, and supporting their growth as they work toward their goals. She is excited to continue building her skills and knowledge alongside the Speech Community team.

We are so grateful to have Rilee on our team and can’t wait to watch her continue to thrive in the field.

Another Free Resource Alert for Local Families and Professionals! 💙

The Region of Waterloo Library now has Sensory Discovery Kits available to borrow for 3 weeks at a time, and they are such an amazing support for regulation, movement, and play based learning!
We explored the Body and Motion Sensory Kit, and it includes thoughtfully selected tools such as:
- A balance board for core strength, coordination, and body awareness
- Footprint stepping pads for motor planning and sequencing
- A wobble cushion for seated movement and posture support
- Noise reducing headphones and sunglasses for sensory regulation
- A visual feelings chart to support emotional awareness and communication

These kits are wonderful for supporting sensory processing, self regulation, motor development, and language through movement and play. They are perfect for home, classrooms, therapy sessions, and calm down spaces.
Highly recommend checking these out if you are a parent, educator, or SLP. Visit your local Region of Waterloo Library branch to borrow one today.

❄️ Snow fun = language fun ❄️
Winter play is full of natural opportunities to build language. Whether you’re building a snowman, digging and climbing, going sledding, or exploring snowy footprints, everyday moments outside can spark meaningful conversation.

Try talking about what you see, what you’re doing, and what might happen next. Use describing words, action words, and lots of turn taking as you play together.
Bundle up, have fun, and enjoy adding language to your winter adventures ☃️✨

Neurodiversity is part of our classrooms, and it deserves attention, understanding and respect. LEANS (Learning About Neurodiversity at School) is a ready to go, evidence based program that introduces children ages 8 to 11 to the concept of neurodiversity and helps them appreciate that everyone learns and thinks differently. A small shift in teaching and awareness can make school a safer, more accepting space for all!
