The MNR has issued a Flood Outlook for the Bracebridge–Minden–Parry Sound District due to increased water levels from rainfall and snow-melt. Residents should use caution around rivers, streams, and ice conditions, as fast-moving water and unstable ice can create dangerous conditions.

💧 Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook 💧

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook for the Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District that will be in effect until Friday, March 20, 2026.

Higher than normal flow conditions are occurring throughout the area due to recent rainfall and snowmelt. Slippery stream banks and fast-flowing, cold water will create hazardous conditions around all water bodies.

Residents are reminded to keep a close watch on weather conditions, regularly check for updated messages, exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams, and maintain close supervision of children and pets.

Those who have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past should continue to take necessary action.

⚠️ MNR advises residents to exercise extreme caution concerning ice conditions. No ice is safe ice.

🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢

Earlier this year, we experienced something pretty incredible right here in our yard.

In the middle of our busy building area—where machines move, lumber stacks grow, and docks take shape—a snapping turtle chose the most unexpected spot to lay her nest. Instead of disturbing it, we reached out to the amazing team at Turtle Guardians, who gently collected the eggs and brought them to their sanctuary to keep them safe.

Weeks passed, and then the moment arrived.

The Turtle Guardians returned with 39 tiny snapping turtles, ready to begin their lives exactly where their mother came from. And in true Cottage Country fashion, the release happened during one of the heaviest rainfalls of the entire summer.

Watching those little turtles crawl into the rain—instinctively heading toward the world that awaited them—was one of the most heartwarming moments we’ve ever been part of.

It was a reminder that even in the middle of our busiest days, nature finds a way… and sometimes lets us help.

A huge thank you to Turtle Guardians for the incredible work they do, and for letting us be a small part of this little miracle.

Here’s to protecting the wildlife that shares this beautiful place we call home.
