Summit memorials has announced that they will be offering some new colour options coming out in the April.

This months feature, Gem Mist!
Here’s what Summit has to say about it.

-
It’s a fine-grain, predominantly black granite interspersed with wispy lines of grey or white throughout. It is not as jet black as Supreme Black and has a softer appearance. It is priced in the same category as Britz Blue Granite, making it less expensive than Supreme Black.

It is a North American granite quarried in Pennsylvania by Polycor which is the company that owns Rock of Ages.

It is suitable for shallow sunk engraving and shadow toned designs but not suitable for laser or diamond etched engraving. The wispy grey lines will show through the design when engraved.

Common Customer Questions – “How Do I Decide On A Monument?”

Size - how big should the monument be depends on what is going on the
marker….is it for one or two people? Do you want full dates of birth and
death or just the years? Is there a picture to go on the marker? How much
or how big is the design going on the monument, these all will affect the
size of the marker

Style - do you prefer a flat marker, pillow marker, or upright marker?
Flat markers are generally less expensive but they will usually be
installed at ground level so they will only be viewed when you are
standing over them. Pillow markers are usually installed on a base that
protects the marker so it will sit up a bit higher and you will see the
family name on the front (possibly back) the marker and the face of the
pillow is sloped so you can see the information from farther back.

Upright markers are the most common because you can see all the
information on the marker better than on the previous two, even in the
winter months.

Budget - all three styles will have different costs with the flat marker
being the least expensive as it is only one piece of granite and is
usually 3-4 inches thick. Pillows use two pieces of granite (a grave
marker and a base) and are usually 3-5 inches in the front sloping from
6-8 inches in the back. Uprights are usually 4-8 inches in thickness and
can be as big or small as you would like them to be (based on cemetery
regulations of course. A couple other things to think about when going
over budget would be shape (the more the grave marker is shaped, the more
it will cost), polished sides (the more you polish the grave marker, the
more it will cost) and color (some colors of granite cost more than other
colors).

Installation - depending on the size of the grave marker, families can
install the markers themselves if they want (again, check with your
cemetery as some cemeteries will install the grave markers themselves).
Lots of families install the flat markers, (if allowed by the cemetery)
where the pillow monuments and upright monuments are usually installed by
the monument company as the bases and weight of the pillows and uprights
may be much heavier than the flat markers. Many installations will require
a foundation (usually made out of cement or granite) to be placed under
the monument unless the cemetery has a “strip” which looks like a long
sidewalk that the monuments are placed on.

Installations are well underway – make sure you let your customers know
that the installation season is usually completed around the end of
October / beginning of November, so order soon to ensure installation this
year!
