đŸ„ČWow—what an incredible Giving Tuesday!

Thanks to your generosity, we didn’t just meet our goal
 we exceeded it!

On Tuesday, December 2nd (Giving Tuesday), we asked for your help to fund two new Video Laryngoscopes (GlideScopes) for South Huron Hospital. These advanced tools are lifesavers in critical moments—when every second counts. Whether it’s a child with a tiny airway, a frail patient, or a trauma victim, emergency intubation is challenging. GlideScopes give our doctors and nurses a clear view, making intubation faster, safer, and more successful.

⭐And you answered the call in a BIG way: Both GlideScopes fully funded, with $28,038 donated in total!⭐

Because of you, these essential tools are on their way to our hospital. Even better, the remaining funds will go toward other high-priority needs—helping us make an even bigger impact.

For fiscal 2025–2026, the Foundation has committed to funding over $800,000 in hospital equipment and technology. Thanks to your incredible support, we’re well on our way to getting the rest of the items fulfilled!

From all of us at South Huron Hospital Foundation: thank you for believing in our mission and making a real difference for patients in our community.

With love,

💙Krista McCann, Executive Direcor

đŸ„When every second counts, having the right equipment can be the difference between life and death.💙 In South Huron Hospital’s Emergency Department, our team often faces critical moments—patients struggling to breathe, severe trauma cases, cardiac arrests. In these situations, securing an airway quickly is essential.

That’s why a Video Laryngoscope (GlideScope) is so important. This advanced tool gives doctors and nurses a clear view of the airway, making intubation faster, safer, and more successful—especially in emergencies where time is everything. Patients needing Video Laryngoscopy range from children with smaller airways, to very ill or frail patients, to accident victims...whatever the case, emergency intubation is challenging, so equipping our medical staff with the right tools ensures they can provide the best possible chance for each patient in respiratory distress.

đŸ€ČTODAY IS GIVING TUESDAY- PLEASE HELP US FULFILL OUR GIVING TUESDAY GOAL!🙏

Thanks to a generous annual donor (a shy one), a new Video GlideScope is already on its way; BUT we urgently need your help to raise $5,000 for a second portable unit. This life-saving tool ensures intubation can happen anywhere in our hospital and also travels with patients during transfers.

Your gift today will help save lives tomorrow. Thank you for being part of our mission.

❀This Giving Tuesday, we’re making a bold statement: the charity and non-profit sector isn’t just important—it’s the heartbeat of our communities and the most vital business sector in the world! In honour of , read our article below, highlighting the latest trends in Canadian charitable giving. đŸ‘‡đŸ€“

Giving Tuesday is an International Movement following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, encouraging people around the world to remember charity during this time of year. At South Huron Hospital Foundation, we want to spread the word that NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL, and in fact, each gift made to SHHF has an exponential impact each and every time a patient is provided with care. We believe that the Charity and Non-Profit sector is one of the most vital business industries in the world. Imagine our communities without charity... it's a scary thought.

Canadians donate around $13 billion per year currently, but this is a drop from 2013 when giving peaked at $16 billion. While 60% of Canadians give monetarily in some way, only 17% of Canadians claimed charitable gifts on their income tax in 2023 (source: Imagine Canada).

Most Canadian donors give around $390/year to various charities. If 60% of Canadians were able to donate even $200/year- that would increase charitable gifts in Canada by $3.5 billion/year!

We realize not everyone in Canada is in the position to donate $200/year; but, looking deeper into international statistics demonstrates that places like Indonesia, Singapore, Egypt, and China are leading the world in their philanthropic behaviours and actions, with the vast majority of citizens donating about 2.5% of their annual income, whereas Canadians give on average 0.5% of their annual income. Also, in more philanthropic countries, generally 70-90% of citizens donate monetarily to charity, while Canada reports under 60% of the population donating to charity.

Canadians need to know that no gift is too small. Small gifts multiply quickly! And, monthly giving is a fantastic way to grow your impact as a donor, while making your gifts more affordable.

💙This Giving Tuesday, the South Huron Hospital Foundation expresses sincere appreciation to our dedicated donors! We have the best of the best!💙

We also encourage Canadians to choose a charity or two and start a monthly gift of $10. Be part of something special. We can guarantee that your $10 will go a lot further than you might imagine.

Happy Giving Tuesday, and Blessed Holiday Season to All.

Craig was a patient in the South Huron Hospital’s inpatient unit over a period of time, where he received what he describes as "exceptional care and support." Following his recovery, Craig ,his wife Donna and WINMAR reached out to the Foundation to make a generous donation of $5,000 in honour of the care he received.

During our conversation, Craig enthusiastically shared how “the care was truly amazing and over the top.” He even kept a list of the nurses and doctors who cared for him, a reflection of just how impressed and moved he was by their compassion and professionalism. Craig also made a point to recognize the kitchen and housekeeping staff, noting that everyone he encountered was kind, caring, and dedicated. Craig shared that he's been to several hospitals over the years, and he was truly impressed by the genuine compassionate care he received in South Huron.

Craig and Donna manage and run a restoration business out of Stratford, Ontario – WINMAR Property restoration and they reside in Exeter. Donna shared that she hopes in some small way, their donation helps ensure that South Huron Hospital continues to serve the community for many years to come. Both Craig, Donna and WINMAR would like to express deep gratitude, saying they simply couldn’t say enough wonderful things about the staff and their experience.

✹ A Gift Rooted in Love, Generosity, and Deep Purpose ✹

Recently, we received a remarkable holiday season gift of $41,750 into our Future Fund Investment. With this contribution, this incredibly generous couple has now given over $405,000 to the South Huron Hospital Foundation — and more than $1.2 million in total to causes close to their hearts.

But what moves us most is not the amount.
It’s the heart behind it.

During a recent conversation, the gentleman shared a favourite Winston Churchill quote (pictured below). It’s a quote that perfectly reflects who they are: people who believe deeply in giving, not for recognition, but for the simple purpose of making life better for others.

Philanthropy comes in many shapes and sizes. It isn’t about millions of dollars — it’s about a commitment to generosity, compassion, and creating goodness in the world. This couple would give whether they had a little or a lot. That’s just who they are.

Their passion for making a difference is a true inspiration, and their generosity has touched lives far beyond what numbers can ever measure. Their belief in giving back is a core value — one that brings meaning to their own lives and hope to countless others.

From all of us at the South Huron Hospital Foundation, thank you for lighting the way with your kindness. 💙

đŸŒșOn this Remembrance Day, we honour Corporal Vera Armstrong — a remarkable woman whose life is a testament to service, strength, and compassion.

Vera joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 at just 19 years old, serving as a wireless operator during the Second World War. Her service took her overseas, including time in Germany during the war’s devastation. She continued her dedication to her country, giving service to the RCAF again in 1951.

During her time at the RCAF training base in Centralia, Vera became like a mother to more than 200 young soldiers in training — offering training, with a side of care, guidance, and warmth in a time when it was needed most.

Beyond her military service, Vera continued to give back to her community for decades as a devoted volunteer with the South Huron Hospital Auxiliary. She has left an imprint on our community and hospital.

In 2021, Vera shared a few memories of her time in service — a glimpse into the courage and kindness that continue to inspire us today.

đŸŽ„ Watch this short clip to hear Vera’s story, in her own words.

Today and always, we remember and honour Vera Armstrong — and all those who have served our country with courage and heart. ❀
