🌺On this Remembrance Day, we honour Corporal Vera Armstrong — a remarkable woman whose life is a testament to service, strength, and compassion.
Vera joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 at just 19 years old, serving as a wireless operator during the Second World War. Her service took her overseas, including time in Germany during the war’s devastation. She continued her dedication to her country, giving service to the RCAF again in 1951.
During her time at the RCAF training base in Centralia, Vera became like a mother to more than 200 young soldiers in training — offering training, with a side of care, guidance, and warmth in a time when it was needed most.
Beyond her military service, Vera continued to give back to her community for decades as a devoted volunteer with the South Huron Hospital Auxiliary. She has left an imprint on our community and hospital.
In 2021, Vera shared a few memories of her time in service — a glimpse into the courage and kindness that continue to inspire us today.

Today and always, we remember and honour Vera Armstrong — and all those who have served our country with courage and heart. ❤️
