🌟 Intro to Reformer starting soon 🌟

We’re excited to share the new schedule for our Intro to Reformer classes, which will run from the week of May 4-June 27.

The cost for the Intro to Reformer class is $256.00 + HST. You will receive a $50 coupon to be applied towards this session at the time of payment.

We are offering Reformer classes on:
Tuesday 7pm
Thursday 7pm
Friday 9am

Spaces are limited to 6 per Reformer Pilates class. You will select one class to attend for the entire session on a first-come, first-served basis.

This week's exercise feature is The Pilates Hundred.

This classical pilates movement is just what your core needs to be challenged and strengthened.

The set up and start position of this movement is vital to gain the maximum benefit of this power move.

Starting supine on the mat while maintaining neutral optimal positioning of spine and pelvis, pick one leg up at a time in table top position (see last week's post about how to get into table-top and check points for good alignment).

Just like doing an Ab prep ,curl up the head, neck,shoulders (refer to previous week's video for details on Ab-prep).

Legs can stay table top as the arms pulse or lengthen them to a diagonal.

Pulsing the arms for a 5 count inhale,5 count exhale: for a total of 10 rounds.

This week's exercise feature is more than a movement, it is a technique that is an integral part of various pilates exercises: Table-top with the legs.

To execute and master this important movement technique it is essential to pay close attention where your head,neck,spine and pelvis is in space.

We start by lying supine with knees bent and feet planted on the mat. It is recommended that palms are pressing into the ground besides the body to help create a good lat connection. Creasing at the hips one leg lifts at a time to table top position where you can imagine the shins are tops of the table and thighs are the legs of the table. This subtle movement challenges you to find a good core connection.

The Power of Slow: Why Slowness is Intentional in Pilates

Don't rush the process! If you've ever felt like your Pilates teacher is making you move incredibly slowly, that's completely intentional—and it's where the magic happens.

Pilates movements are performed slowly for three powerful reasons:

Mind-Body Connection & Precision: Moving slowly forces you to focus intensely on every muscle fiber involved. This heightens your proprioception (your body's sense of where it is in space) and ensures you are executing the movement with the precision central to the Pilates method, rather than just momentum.

Muscle Recruitment & Deeper Strength: Fast movements tend to rely on your larger, superficial muscles. Moving slowly recruits your deep, stabilizing muscles (like your transverse abdominis and pelvic floor). This builds sustainable, deep core strength that protects your joints and improves your posture long after the session is over.

Time Under Tension: Slowness increases the time your muscles are actively engaged under tension. This is a highly effective way to safely build lean muscle tone and endurance without bulking.

The takeaway? Slow is strong. Embrace the burn, respect the pace, and feel the difference that mindful, controlled movement makes!
