Glutes or gluteal muscles can become tight after too much sitting, overuse or overexertion.
Did you know that gluteal muscles can be tight and weak or tight and strong?
Weak muscles should not be stretched but determined WHY you feel tight/pain in that area.Gluteal muscles are often neurologically weak and can cause referred pain. As a Fascial Stretch Therapist, I determine what tissue should be stretched and/or strengthened by modifying and performing stretches using different angles to target specific fibers of each gluteal muscle. As this stretch is modified to your body, no movement is performed if you feel uncomfortable or pain.
Did you know that back, hip and knee pain may be due to weakness in your gluteal muscles?
When there is weakness, your body will compress joints to find stability. Piriformis syndrome, for example, occurs when the deep gluteal muscles are tight and pinches the sciatic nerve which causes sciatica and joint compression. Therefore, getting your joints to open up is very important.
Remember, the fascia encompasses the entire body and is a connective tissue that affects ALL parts of the body.
FST focuses on the fascial connections and not individual muscles. Therefore, while you get stretched locally, using diagonal and rotating patterns, all the tissue along the way is getting worked as well activating the weaker muscles and releasing the overactive muscles.
