Dare we say that winter has joined us? ❄

Don't worry, we've got your eyes front and center with our care! Here's some helpful tips and facts about your eyes this season:

-Snow blindness is real! It’s caused by UV rays reflecting off the snow and can lead to painful eye inflammation.

-Cold weather might make you drink less water, but your eyes still need hydration to produce healthy tears.

-Light sensitivity increases in bright, snowy conditions—polarized lenses help reduce glare and protect your vision.

-Dry indoor air and cold outdoor winds can cause irritation and dry eyes.

-Winter produce like carrots, kale, and citrus fruits are rich in vitamins A and C — both great for your vision and tear film health.

-Proper UV protection, moisturizing eye drops, and regular eye exams keep your vision comfortable and healthy all season long.

-Sunglasses in winter are just as important as in summer—UV rays don’t take a snow day!

-Use a humidifier indoors. Your eyes will thank you!

Stay warm and we hope to see you soon!

👻👁️Halloween Eye Safety Tips: Keep Your Look Fun, Not Frightful!

Halloween is the perfect time to get creative with your costume — bold makeup, dramatic lashes, and spooky contact lenses can really make your look come alive! 👻✨
But before you dive into your transformation, here are a few eye safety tips from your friends at Fort Saskatchewan Eyecare to keep your eyes healthy and happy this Halloween:

👁️ 1. Only wear contact lenses prescribed by an optometrist.
Even decorative or colored contacts are considered medical devices and require a proper fitting and prescription. Lenses from costume shops or online sellers can cause eye infections, corneal scratches, and even vision loss.

💧 2. Handle and clean lenses properly.
Wash and dry your hands before touching your contacts, use only approved cleaning solutions, and never share your lenses with anyone else — no matter how cool they look!

💄 3. Choose eye makeup carefully.
Use only cosmetics designed for the eye area and make sure they’re not expired. Avoid applying eyeliner on the inner rim of your eyelids, and remove all makeup thoroughly before bed to prevent irritation or infection.

👁️‍🗨️ 4. Be cautious with false lashes and adhesives.
Some lash glues contain harsh chemicals or latex that can cause allergic reactions. Opt for hypoallergenic, ophthalmologist-tested adhesives, and avoid applying glue too close to your lash line.

🌙 5. Give your eyes a break.
After a long night of fun, remove contacts, lashes, and makeup carefully and let your eyes rest. If you experience redness, pain, or blurry vision — skip the tricks and come see us!

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡
September 30

Today, we pause to honour the children who never came home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. As an optometry office, we recognize the importance of seeing clearly—not just with our eyes, but with our hearts and minds.

We are committed to listening, learning, and supporting truth and reconciliation. We stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and reflect on the ongoing impact of colonialism.

🧡 Every child matters. 🧡
