Something to be mindful of as women and the individuals that love us...

Warning this may be a long post but definitely important. On Wednesday evening's session we discussed our experience with being a woman. I had mentioned that a few years prior I had made a post on the risk of women losing any traction if we took our rights for granted.
I am not looking to get into a debate on abortion, like many decisions in life I believe it is a private one. But like any other private decision...(like whether or not to have children, how many children to have, whom to marry, your career choice, choices in medical treatment etc). I believe it is an independent, personal choice of the woman in the situation.
Picture below is the current US Supreme Court judges, they may due to their personal... not professional beliefs, values and judgments remove the long standing right for a woman to have control and choice of her body.
Below you will find the post I wrote.

As we say farewell to 2018, let’s not forget there is still “women’s work” to do! I remember while completing a course in feminism, stating that as women we had become comfortable in our status. With comfort we risk losing any traction of rights we had gained in equality. That was in 2012, little did I know how far we hadn’t come or how big the risk was.
We don’t have to become public, in your face activists. What we can do is hold space for women, not be silent when a conversation needs to be had. Talk about what is or isn’t happening in the world that impacts woman. Don’t limit these conversations to other women, include the men in your life as well. Help them understand any woman issue is a man’s issue as well.
Let’s have conversations with our children, remind children that we all have a responsibility to keep each other safe regardless of gender. For the girls, yes, no means no. And no one has a right to invade your space without permission. For the boys, respect no, and silence should be taken as a no as well.
We all have women in our lives we love, let’s work towards a safer world for all of us. Always know we have the ability to help another by offering a safe space, with no fear of judgment.
Together we rise, here’s to moving forward in 2019.
Love, She

Well it's definitely been awhile since I have posted any content here... they say you can't move forward while we remain with one foot in the past. So this will be my farewell post for She. Initially, I thought I needed the summer to slow down, take care of myself, my health and my loved ones. Turns out I needed more than a summer. I needed a huge reset in my life.
There have been many pieces of this reset of sorts. Most prominent was my permanent move from New Brunswick to beautiful Prince Edward Island. After reflection on my career, the various streams I had experience with, it is individual and employee wellbeing that I am most passionate about and where I see myself in the future. The future is now. Earlier this month I opened my new business, Flourish Wellbeing Centre! I will share the page for anyone would may want to follow as there may be some posts of interest and if you are ever on the island chances are there may be a workshop happening. I would like to thank the many women who have walked through the door of She and followed along on the journey of wellness. I would like to leave you with my favourite poem... Best, Karen

Wonderful Women of Wednesday
This week I had the pleasure of spending some time with a dear friend who has been going through some major life changes.
While she is in the “helping” field, her day to day work is emotionally exhausting. Somewhere in the midst of helping other’s, she has completely forgotten to care for herself and the other meaningful relationships in her life.
She has recently decided to place herself and her needs first in her life. To give what little energy she has left to herself. How often as women do we give the best of ourselves to others? How often as women are we in conflict with our needs and the ability to verbalize those needs then act...
How often do we struggle to control our environment, yet dream of feeling safe to relinquish this control. To allow life to unfold as it’s meant to?
All to often I see individuals, (mostly women) try to improve the lives of others. Whether it be children, partners, family, friends or strangers. Friend we do not have to be everything to everyone.
Take care of yourself, you are braver than you realize!

Self-Care Saturday with She
One step forward, sometimes a few steps back! I’m sure we have all experienced this! So what happens between the time we have the thought of implementing a new routine and the actual reality of it? Our life happens! Responsibilities happen! Other’s take priority in our lives.

We all wear many different hats; some by choice, others not so much! With each hat we wear come many different responsibilities some of which compete with our own unique needs for wellness.

When was the last time you placed yourself and your wellness first? Can you remember? If you can, what were the feelings you experienced? Did you experience more of the feel good feelings or guilt?

Starting July 1st, I will be trying to implement a new self-care routine. I will be focusing on allowing and accepting less! Less worry, less work, less control (this is huge one for myself).

I know myself well enough to know, I’m not the woman I enjoy myself to be. Somewhere along my journey, if lost the woman who laughs. After some reflection the realization came that there is just too much going on and my priorities have gone sideways!

So She will be available in her limited edition! What exactly does that mean? It means in the next week, I will try to prepare my summer posts for Saturday’s and Wednesday’s for the summer months. Some weeks I may miss, and that is okay.

In this life we can not be everything to everyone and nothing to ourselves. The way I see my life at this time is I have probably lived more days then remains. Not really believing I will live until 102, but who knows I might! 🤪

What I do know is just being is living, allowing our batteries to fully recharge is so very important. Plugging in the battery for a weekend or week only helps a little. Sometimes we need to give our lives a complete overhaul.

So if you follow my page, or happen upon it and there isn’t a recent post. Take that as a nudge from She to just be, get off the electronics and just be with yourself!

I look forward to the journey I am about to embark on, and I’m hoping someone reading this may have the courage to care for themselves as well. If not that’s okay, as this is only about me and She ❤️

Wonderful Women of Wednesday
A wonderful lady shared a message of learning with me recently. “Not all feelings are, ours to feel”. What a great reminder of recognize what is ours and to release what isn’t ours...
We can hold space for both ourselves and others by owning what’s ours and letting them hold what’s theirs.
As difficult as it is to let go of some perceived wrong doing, it is the path to healing...
Think of all that you carry, then release what is not yours; it’s the only way to stay wonderful ladies 💕

Self-Care Saturday...
A beautiful morning to be sitting outside, listening to all the sounds of nature! I think the secret to self-care and wellness is to be who you are in each moment. Having the courage to make yourself and your wellness a priority. This will not always be a popular choice for others and that is okay. Is it easy, no! Others have certain expectations of you. But that is their expectations don’t confuse what other’s need from you with what you need.

Being honest with others about our own needs for wellness takes a certain vulnerability, this in itself can be anxiety provoking. When was the last time you removed the mask you wear each and everyday? Some of us put the mask on before we even manage to get out of bed to start our day. Then we continue to wear it, until we retire for the evening... exhausting isn’t it?

Caring constantly for others leads to an imbalance. The longer we stay imbalanced the more difficult it is to return to a normal, healthy state of being.

Listen to what your body is telling you, then take small steps to make some changes. Sometimes the change may be as simple as recognizing a change needs to be made. We do not need to know the how, we can just be in the awareness.

I hope you find the courage you need to care for yourself, let others be. Their thoughts and opinions of you are really none of your business! You are worthy of self-care and wellness.

You are worthy of being your priority...continue to shine in your beauty!

Wonderful Women of Wednesday...
We all have those days; and it’s okay!

"Piglet?" said Pooh.

"Yes Pooh?" said Piglet.

"Do you ever have days when everything feels... Not Very Okay At All? And sometimes you don't even know why you feel Not Very Okay At All, you just know that you do."

Piglet nodded his head sagely. "Oh yes," said Piglet. "I definitely have those days."

"Really?" said Pooh in surprise. "I would never have thought that. You always seem so happy and like you have got everything in life all sorted out."

"Ah," said Piglet. "Well here's the thing. There are two things that you need to know, Pooh. The first thing is that even those pigs, and bears, and people, who seem to have got everything in life all sorted out... they probably haven't. Actually, everyone has days when they feel Not Very Okay At All. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

"And the second thing you need to know... is that it's okay to feel Not Very Okay At All. It can be quite normal, in fact. And all you need to do, on those days when you feel Not Very Okay At All, is come and find me, and tell me. Don't ever feel like you have to hide the fact you're feeling Not Very Okay At All. Always come and tell me. Because I will always be there."

Self-Care Saturday...
Another weekend is upon us, we are a full week into the 6th month of the year! Seems like yesterday I was writing a post to start the new year!
So have you been able to make yourself a priority this year? Are there goals that you have set for 2019, that for whatever reason have not been started yet? Did you make a promise to yourself to be gentler to yourself, but find it more difficult than you thought it would be?
I’m here to say, that’s okay, and you are okay! Life gets busy, and for reasons unknown everything and everyone else takes priority. We live in a world where being busy is the norm, feeling overwhelmed is an average day.
Unfortunately when we are so busy doing, we stop being. We forget who we are and what brings us joy...we forget to take care of ourselves.
So this weekend, think of what you have been putting off and plan to make it a reality. I’m not talking about laundry, losing ten pounds or a pedicure.
I’m thinking is there a physical health issue or test you have been delaying? Being a woman and the tests required are not fun or pleasant, but necessary. So if you have been putting off or rescheduling a mammogram or pap. Please rebook and get them done! If you are experiencing other health issues and feel unheard by your health provider; use your voice. Advocate for yourself and your health. You alone know yourself best and know when things aren’t right. Continue speaking until you are heard and you are satisfied with the results.
Take care of She, by being proactive with your care! You deserve to be well!
