Doula support is one of those things that quietly changes everything.

A large Cochrane review found that having continuous support in labour is linked to:
• more spontaneous vaginal births
• shorter labours
• less use of pain medication
• lower cesarean rates
• and a better overall birth experience

And honestly… we see this play out all the time.

This Doula Week, I’m feeling really grateful to do this work alongside Charlene and Tori. Three nurses, three doulas, all bringing our own strengths, but rooted in the same goal… making sure families feel supported, informed, and not alone in their birth experience.

We’re not there to take over.
We’re there to help you feel steady, confident, and cared for in moments that can feel big and uncertain.

Because how you feel in your birth matters just as much as what happens.

If you’ve been wondering whether having that kind of support would make a difference for you, it often does.

We’d love to be part of your village.

If you’re expecting and want an expert in your corner to guide you through every step of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum - this is your sign to book your Meet & Greet.

The benefits of having a birth coach + doula in your corner are honestly incredible (like… shorter labours, fewer interventions, more confidence, and support you can actually count on).

Availability is limited (and some months are already FULL), so now’s the time to grab your spot!!

Questions? Send us a message! We’d love to support you on your birth and postpartum journey. 🤍

It’s not the hospital itself, it’s…

The unknown.

Not knowing what labour will feel like.

Not knowing what decisions might come up.

Not knowing how their body will handle it.

It usually sounds something like:

“I just don’t know what to expect.”

“Everyone’s birth story is so different.”

“What if something goes wrong?”

“Am I actually going to be able to handle the pain?”

“There are just so many unknowns.”

“How bad is it really going to be?”

“It’s my first baby… I have no idea what I’m doing.”

TBH these are very normal questions to have!

Birth can feel overwhelming when you’re preparing for something you’ve never experienced before.

But when you understand how labour actually works, what typically happens in the hospital, and what your options are… things start to feel a lot less scary.

Education doesn’t remove every unknown, obviously. But it replaces a lot of fear with clarity, confidence and EMPOWERMENT!! What we’re all about here at Beyond The Bump.

Let’s normalize normal (because there are a lot of misconceptions about newborn feeding).

You’ll often hear that babies should nurse or pump every 2-3 hours.

That’s a helpful guideline, but feeding your baby based on their cues is usually the best approach. Sometimes that means it’s sooner than 2 hours, and sometimes it might be a little longer.

Most newborns feed 8-12+ times in 24 hours, and sometimes even more. Frequent feeding on its own doesn’t mean low milk supply. It’s often normal newborn behaviour.

Cluster feeding in the evening

Many babies want to nurse over and over again in the evening hours. It can feel like a lot (totally get it), but it’s a very common pattern.

Short feeds sometimes

Not every feed will be long. Some are quick and efficient, especially once babies start getting the hang of things.

Wanting to be close all the time

Newborns often feed for comfort and regulation as much as for milk. Feeding and closeness tend to go hand in hand.

Wondering if your baby is getting enough

Almost every new parent wonders this. The things we actually look at are diapers, weight gain, and hearing swallows, not how long the feed lasts or how full your breasts feel.

Save this for the middle of the night feeds.

🚨And if feeding is painful, stressful, just not going the way you hoped or something feels off - ask for help ASAP!

You don’t have to work it out on your own.

You can book an infant feeding appointment (in your home with Charlene or in office with Lara), and we’ll look at what’s going on together and make a plan that works for you and your baby.

If you’re currently going through this or have in the past, tell me below!!

Prodromal labour. Contractions or tightening that feel like low period cramps, starting in the evening and by morning they’re gone.

I had it for 2 straight weeks with my first pregnancy!

So many people experience it but don’t know if it’s normal. It is! Your body is getting ready to do what it needs to.

What you can do when you feel them:

First, make sure your go bags are packed.

Then, eat a good meal with complex carbs and protein.

Next: GO TO BED. No, I didn’t say go curb walk or bounce on your ball. Legit, go to bed. It is the best possible thing you can do for yourself.
