I love the low hanging sun of November. Though it looks pretty different out there this morning after the first significant snowfall overnight, I suspect we have more sunny woods walks ahead before winter gets real.

Walking in the woods for me is a big part of how I stay centered. Over the last few weeks I've been deep diving into the core, our center. For me it's been a real noticing of the impact of working on my center, on feeling centered. Sounds a bit weird? Have you ever noticed what happens if you're having an off day and you try to balance in a yoga class? It doesn't usually go so well. Feeling off balance mentally or emotionally can make you physically feel off balance. Try to notice next time you're wobbling about!

In my studies with in my course there been a real shift in my center. Spending so much time with and embodying my , noticing the impact on my day to day movement and more deeply connecting to the relationship of the breath and the core has shown me just how important nurturing this relationship is, and the impact not only on the physical body, but the mental and emotional body as well. The course is primarily focused on thy physical and yet if you're paying attention, you can't help but notice how it shifts your whole being.

The more we build connection to our center through movement and breath the more we can notice what throws us off center. Why our belly tightens in some situations, and softens in others. What makes us feel tall and strong and when we feel a sense of collapse and a need for support. Paying attention to my body and the bodies of many others and its sometimes subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) communication over the years has been a real gateway to the deeper inner workings and stories of body, mind and spirit.
For me through all my practices and studies over the years focusing on the body has taught me more about the soul than I could read in any book.

*Space is LIMITED TO 8 STUDENTS*

This 3 hour class is an exploration of somatic skills via Restorative Yoga and Somatic Experiencing concepts and methods.

Our relationship to support is the focus in this class. We will use the physical supports of restorative yoga and explore the concept of 'the web of support' in our lives. Using a short journaling exercise and visualization work as well as orienting, somatic tracking and pendulation practice we will begin to attune to the parts of us that are overworking, creating excess tone and holding patterns (eg. breath holding, muscle clenching) in an effort to hold us up, and begin to teach these parts they dont have to work so hard all the time and soften into support.

It's important to note that we are not looking to "release" anything. Rather building a better relationship with our body so we can begin to understand what our body is trying to communicate and integrate the self protection responses that are actually showing up to support us.

This class is primarily practice oriented with some education woven in as well.

You should dress in layers as the body can cool down with restorative work.

Please bring a pen, journal or paper, a yoga mat ( I have some if needed), and a pillow and blanket that you really find cozy or really enjoy the texture of. You may also wish to have something to cover your eyes like a scarf, eye mask or hat you can pull down.

This is going to be especially helpful for those who are or have been hyper-independant, work as supporters, healers, caregivers (traditional and non-traditional), self-employed folks, or people in roles where they have to provide a lot of support (even if it isn't "your job") have experienced a lack of family/friend support, you're the ones who everyone turns to for a listening ear, and anyone who is experiencing doing it all on their own.

This workshop will be 1-4pm on Sunday November 9th at Lokamotion - space is limited to just 8 people.

Yesterday was a full day, in fact the entire weekend was full, but in all the right ways.
My second time teaching this workshop, all about gentle self massage and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and it's been determined that it needs to be at least 4 hours long and not just 90m. I always run out of time with this one, there is so much more to teach + it needs to be slow to be effective. The yoga nidra at the end could be an hour on its own. Next time! The light in the was beautiful at I was setting up.

I also had a full weekend of training in the method with Natasha Colter at UNB in the gorgeous Hatheway Studio. I've been wanting to train in Pilates for years now and I've let this training pass me by a couple of times now. So glad I listened and went for it, despite this being a busy time of year. Learning is one of my favourite ways to stay busy!

I also somehow managed to sneak in some time to make these chocolate almond protein bars to get us through the week!

Happy Monday!

As we head into September its really easy to let the momentum of the season take hold and create a sense of urgency and stress within our body minds. The frenetic energy this time of year can take us out of our body, as we spend time mulling over the to do's at the same time that we're thrust back into routines that are often a little too much.

This class uses self massage and breathwork practices to help us ground into our bodies, with a specific focus on working with the vagus nerve to elicit the relaxation response. We'll finish the class with a short yoga nidra practice to settle into deep rest.

Class is held at Lokamotion at 151 Main Street from 6:30-8pm on Sunday September 21st.

Here's my "recipe" for this lentil quinoa tabouli, ADHD style.

Find that bag of green lentils that's been hiding at the back of your cupboard since last winter.

Don't measure anything, measuring is for amateur's. (okay measuring is for loser's, m'kay?)

Soak overnight so you can cook them in the same pot as your quinoa so you don't overwhelm your teenager who is on dish duty.

Forget your plan because (squirrel!) and then notice the lentils and put them in the fridge so you can make it the next day.

Don't remember or look up the measurements of water to lentil ratio so that when you cook the quinoa and lentils you have to painstakingly strain them since they look a little mushy (but really its just the starch, they're fine) .. Submit to the process, and rinse and drain the quinoa lentil mixture. Refrigerate and forget them for another day.

Notice the mix on day 3 when its raining and get it together.

Put one bunch of Curley Parsley in a food processor (because you're not in the mood to mince by hand) until finely minced.

Do the same with your (all your) garlic, tomatoes and red onion.

Put a bunch of Greek seasoning (from bulk barn) on top.

Put 3 glugs of Olive oil in your dirty food processor (but it's only dirty from the veg, it's important to have standards). Add a bunch of lemon juice (fresh is best but I forgot to buy fresh so it's Real Lemon juice from the bottle). Add a bit of vinegar, I used the last of my apple cider vinegar, but most will work.. Maybe not balsamic.

Add some salt and fresh ground pepper (remember don't measure, measuring is for loser's 🤣). Spin it around in your food processor or maybe one of those shaker bottles. Throw the bit of salt you spilled on the counter over your left shoulder, because if you're cooking this way you're clearly using some kind of witchcraft (if anyone witnesses this be sure to mutter something non-sensical to really drive the witchcraft element home).

Add the dressing, mix thoroughly. Enjoy the product of your labor.
