What effects, if any, do these posts have on you and your life?

Each week I sit down to write my thoughts down in hopes to create two things:

Change in people’s lives
New client relationships

I offer simple daily thoughts to do the same.

Despite having a steady flow of clients, only one client relationship was created as a result of these posts. I really do it to help people recognize that, of the thousands of thoughts that pass through their minds everyday, we have the power to choose to invest in the ones that truly matter to our lives.

Has that message come across?

Have any of my musings created change for you?

I ask because I recently found out from a friend that a mutual friend finds my posts annoying. This got me thinking! Part of my work can be annoying for people. I can be relentless in my efforts to help people create the change that they say they truly want. I have repeatedly been told to f-off when I point out a pattern that is affecting a client’s daily life for years that they are seeing in that moment for the first time.

In saying all this, I also have FB connections who I rarely see and, when I do, they tell me how much they appreciate my posts. I’m not sharing this because I am looking for affirmation to continue sharing my thoughts. I’m asking because I genuinely want to know from everybody who is willing to answer: what effects, if any, do these posts have on you and your life?

Please let me know below or PM me. Whether your answer is absolutely or none, I’d love to know what and why!

Thanks for taking the time!

Sending love ❤️

How well do you care for yourself?

Or does that seem like it’s too selfish?

Imagine you’re at your partner’s birthday party. All of your closest friends are there and you realize it’s time to make a toast. You clink a glass and ask everybody to take a moment to really celebrate your partner. You describe all the ways that your partner is so incredible and by the end of your share people are applauding, a few people shed tears, and a number of people are hugging your partner and congratulating you for saying such beautiful things.

Now imagine the same thing but that it’s your birthday party instead. You stand and start to clink a glass. Once you have everybody’s attention, you start your toast, “I’d like to take a moment to share with you how amazing I am.” And now things are awkward. People are glaring at each other wondering why you’re boasting.

Somewhere imbedded in our human evolution we’ve been taught that caring for others is something to celebrate, while caring for ourselves is shameful.

I thought that I created a work-around, I played a trick on my mind—caring for others IS caring for myself. But it eventually comes back to bite me. I’ll start to feel the resentment creep in—Dave does and does and does for others, who is doing for Dave? And that’s when I know that I’ve waited too long to care for myself.

Life is full of things that nourish and deplete us. It’s really important to determine which things do which, and then make sure that the nourishment outweighs the depletion.

Is it rest? Food? Sleep? Sport? Exercise? Time with friends? Cooking? Baking? Time away from work? From people? Knitting? Reading? Whatever it is, know it, and make sure it plays a dominant role in your life.

Traveling through incredibly ancient ruins has reminded me that we are here for such a short time. One hundred years from now you are likely to be a fleeting memory. As long as you’re not hurting others, wouldn’t it be great to honour yourself and your descendants by living the life of your dreams?

Why not start right now?

Ever find yourself getting distracted from what’s most important to you?

As many of you know, I am currently traveling in South America for 11 months with my son and wife.

We’ve been planning to do something like this for years and it finally came to fruition. I like the idea of living my brand. Make bold choices that align with the life you want to live, and make them happen. It feels like an intentional life to me.

We have to answer a few very important questions before leaping in:

What do you really want?

Ya, but what do you REALLY want?

What are you willing to do to make this happen?

What are you willing to give up?

Who do you need to take into consideration?

What are the literal and figurative costs?

Are you REALLY ready and willing?

As I explore truly ancient ruins, it becomes more clear how my life is just a blip on the timeline. This helps motivate me to live a life of depth, to experience my senses, my people, my emotions—really, the present moment.

And what I notice, is that I get distracted from this depth by my phone, my negative thoughts, and my desire for things to be different from how they are in the present.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We can be much more intentional about how we navigate our distractions. A few small decisions can go a long way.

Don’t pick up your phone until after your exercise. Put down your phone for the night before dinner. Watch the thought that says I’d rather be sitting on the couch than making dinner, let it pass, and even replace it with I get to nourish myself and my family.

Practice laying aside your most common distractions and choose to implement what’s most important to you in your life. You can make it happen!

I just read a quote from that may help:
“It’s not about being perfect. It's about being consistent. Keep showing up for yourself. Before you know it, you’ll have raised up your whole life.”
