Itโs world Menopause Day!
***********
We have come a long way from what was once only whispered about or even worst, kept silent to now more open discussions and sharing of experiences. We still have a ways to go to help women transition into and through this life stage.
The theme this year for World Meopause day is Lifestyle Medicine- emphasizing how nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle choices can help manage symptoms and serve as a foundtaion for optimal health. I love that The Menopause Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador is shining a brighter light on the need for โhealthy relationshipsโ in this stage of life to improve outcomes.
Menopause can bring physical and emotional challengesโฆhaving a strong support network can make all the difference in how women manage the changes they face. Friendships, family, support groups, or community involvement, can foster social connections and be one of the most powerful ways to improve a womanโs experience of menopause and promote overall well-being.
โConnection is why weโre here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.โ๏ฟฝโ Brenรฉ Brown

Today, on World Menopause Day, the Menopause Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador (MFNL) proudly joins the International Menopause Society (IMS) in recognizing this yearโs global theme:
The 2025 IMS White Paper highlights a growing body of evidence supporting lifestyle medicine as a foundational, non-pharmacological strategy to ease menopausal symptoms, reduce chronic disease risk, and enhance quality of life.
It identifies
๐ฝ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐น๐ถ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐น๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ that empower women to navigate menopause with resilience, autonomy, and vitality:
Healthy Eating
Physical Activity
Mental Wellbeing
Avoidance of Risky Substances
Restorative Sleep
Healthy Relationships
At MFNL, this message deeply resonates. From the very beginning, our mandate has been to take a ๐ต๐ผ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต to menopause management, recognizing that every womanโs experience is unique, and that true care requires a comprehensive management plan, not a singular โcure" approach.
While medical therapies like HRT play an important role, many women benefit from combining these with lifestyle strategies that nurture the whole woman โ supporting her physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Thatโs why our Holistic Management Plan was built on similar pillars โ nutrition, movement, stress management, sleep, and appropriate medical support โ mirroring the evidence-based foundation of lifestyle medicine celebrated worldwide today.
This year, as we join this global conversation, we want to shine a special light on one pillar that is especially meaningful:
Strong social connections are critical for healthy ageing. They protect mental health, ease symptoms, and remind women that they are not alone on this journey. As the IMS notes,
And this is why weโre so thankful for each and every one of YOU โ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐.
By being here, connecting with one another, sharing our posts, commenting, engaging, and supporting this mission, you are helping to cultivate this sixth pillar: Healthy Relationships.
Together, weโre breaking the silence, rewriting the narrative, and creating a space where women feel seen, supported, and empowered through every stage of midlife and menopause.
