Equine herpesvirus (EHV) is a family of equine viruses named by numbers including EHV-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with EHV-1,3,4 posing the most risk for domestic horses. EHV is a common DNA virus that occurs in horse populations worldwide. The two most common species are EHV-1 and EHV-4.

Our RVTs are the heartbeat of equine care — highly trained professionals in patient care, anesthesia, radiography, lab work, and so much more. They bring knowledge, dedication, and compassion to every patient they touch.

This poem, “Hands That Heal,” is a small tribute to the steady hands and kind hearts that keep our equine partners thriving. 🐴✨

Although National Vet Tech Week has come to an end, we continue to celebrate all RVTs in Ontario for the rest of the month. 🫶

The long weekend is almost here! Our team will be taking some time to enjoy the holiday, but emergency services remain available for our clients throughout the weekend.

If your horse needs any medication refills, please request them by Friday October 10th to ensure they’re ready before the holiday.

🩺💉 Vaccine Booster Reminder

The flu booster helps to protect against Equine Influenza and Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) and is recommended to be repeated every 6 months.

Equestrian Canada mandates that the flu booster is given 6 months (+ 21 days) before arriving to a competition.
***Plan ahead*** Check your show schedule and coordinate an appointment to ensure your horse is protected.

👉 If you’re not sure when your horse’s last shot was, reach out to the Rivendell team—we’ll help keep them on track.
