Get ready for Mindful Monday! ✨ On Monday I will be posting a minute long mindful meditation, so I hope you can take a moment for yourself and join me!

This type of meditation is based on being mindful, having an increased awareness and acceptance of living in the present moment.

In mindful meditation, you broaden your conscious awareness. You focus on what you experience during meditation, the flow of your breath, sensations in the body and whatever comes up for you. You can observe your thoughts and emotions, but let them pass without judgment.

Quiet the mind, and the soul will speak. -Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

I feel like social media is a huge contributor to mom guilt. What do you see when you look at this picture? Smiles? Can you tell that I did my hair? Sure those are both true statements but there’s so much more behind this picture that you can’t see.

This picture doesn’t show all the melt downs that happened during the time it took me to do my hair (from Nash and me). It doesn’t show the lipstick that Nash got all over himself and my favourite pair of Lulus because I had to use the washroom for 2 minutes. It doesn’t show the entire roll of toilet paper that got unrolled. It doesn’t show postpartum depression or anxiety, and it doesn’t show the fact that this is the first time in at least a month that I’ve even attempted to get ready because I know it will turn out something like this.

I feel like pictures like this can come across as ‘parenthood is effortless’ for some, or make you wonder what you’re doing wrong because your day doesn’t look like that. Now I’m not saying pictures like this shouldn’t be posted, these are gems and wonderful memories. But I am saying that there is a story behind these ‘happy’ photos, and it’s not always sunshine and rainbows.

To the mamas that cried today or yelled when you told yourself you wouldn’t. To the mamas that feel overwhelmed by the endless mountains of laundry and dishes. To the mamas who feel like you are failing, I hear you, I see you, and I am here for you. You are not alone.

While this is just good sense for everyone, I think about how valuable these tools are for labour. Labour can be full of unexpected emotions, sensations and circumstances, so navigating your way through it without some handy tools can be difficult. It’s my goal to guide you through whatever childbirth throws your way, teach you coping techniques and inspire you to trust your intuition ✨

I remember when I walked into my first mommy and me yoga class, I was so nervous, I was terrified Nash would cry and we’d have to pack up and leave. I took Nash to an empty spot in the back and got us settled. Then I heard a baby cry, and I think that was the only time in my life I was relieved to hear a baby cry. In that moment I realized that every other woman in that room felt the exact same way that I did and I was not alone, we were in this together. Truth is that motherhood is hard no matter who you are, and transitioning into that new role can be very overwhelming.

As women and mothers we are nurturers and we are givers and we do so for our loved ones unconditionally, but sometimes we forget or we don’t have the time or the energy to take care of ourselves. They say it takes a village and I want to be a part of yours. I want to be someone in your corner that cares about your needs and your well-being because you spend so much time doing that for your loved ones.

So I wanted to dedicate part of my life to building a community driven by compassion, support and love. I am so excited to announce that I created Karuna Collective so I can help empower your birth experience, support your transition into motherhood, and to help you reconnect to your body and bond with your littles. I want to help fellow mamas build their villages and feel empowered.
I am choosing to take a new path in life by becoming a doula and yogi, and I hope I can brighten lives of many along the way. Checkout my website https://karunacollective.ca for more info ❤️
