I’m Andrea, a trauma-informed therapist and holistic practitioner offering counselling and nervous system–based support for individuals and couples. My clinical work supports adults navigating anxiety, trauma patterns, people-pleasing, boundaries, and relational challenges — both individually and within intimate relationships. I integrate evidence-based counselling with somatic and holistic approaches to support greater regulation, self-trust, and more connected relationships with self and others. In addition to counselling, I facilitate workshops and group offerings focused on boundaries, nervous system regulation, and feminine embodiment, and I offer a range of supportive resources — including online programs and free educational tools — to support continued growth outside of sessions. Funny how quickly you become “the problem” when you stop being the one who accommodates everything. You’re not actually becoming the villain. You’re just no longer over-functioning, over-explaining, and overextending to keep the peace. For a nervous system that’s used to people-pleasing, this phase can feel uncomfortable… but it’s also where self-trust starts to build. You started setting boundaries… and now you “have an attitude.” Interesting how that works. For a lot of people, being easygoing and accommodating was never just personality — it was a pattern built around keeping the peace and staying connected. So when you stop over-explaining, overextending, and automatically adjusting yourself to others, it can feel like a big shift… to you and to everyone around you. You’re not becoming difficult. You set the boundary… and then immediately feel the need to explain it, soften it, justify it. That part right there? That’s not clarity. That’s your nervous system trying to keep you safe. We’ve been conditioned to believe that a “no” needs to be padded, explained, or made more comfortable for other people. But your needs don’t become more valid the more you explain them. As you head into the weekend, notice the urge to over-explain after you say no. Pause. Breathe. Let the boundary stand on its own. You’re allowed to choose yourself without writing a whole story about why. If this is something you’re learning, you’re not doing it wrong… you’re rewiring something deep.

You don’t need to justify your boundary to make it valid. If you feel the urge to over-explain, that’s your nervous system trying to stay safe in old patterns. Clear. Short. Done. Save this for when your body wants to over-talk.
