Understanding Mental Health

Mental health is an essential aspect of overall health—impacting how we think, feel, and function in our personal and professional lives. As conversations around mental wellness continue to become more common, we must approach the topic with clarity, empathy, and modern insight.

• The true definition of mental health
• Common psychological challenges, including anxiety and depression
• The impact of mental health on daily life and relationships
• Practical, proactive strategies for maintaining mental well-being

By increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting supportive dialogue, we can create a more informed, compassionate society. Whether you're a mental health advocate, healthcare provider, educator, or simply seeking understanding— begin with empathy and continue the conversation.

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
ART is a therapy that helps you process painful memories and emotions without needing to retell every detail. It’s often used for PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and grief.
How does it work? ART uses eye movements and guided imagery to help your brain “rewrite” how it stores tough memories — so they no longer feel as overwhelming.
What to expect? You’ll stay in control, focus on images and sensations (not just words), and often feel real relief in just a few sessions. Are you or someone you love suffering? Call (780)-897-3935 or email RLG counselling services (link in bio) with any questions. ART could be helpful for you or someone in your life who is struggling.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective, evidence-based form of psychological treatment that supports individuals in managing a wide range of mental health challenges.
According to the American Psychological Association, CBT is grounded in decades of scientific research and clinical practice. It’s built on the idea that emotional distress is often influenced by unhelpful thought patterns and learned behaviours—and that with the right guidance, people can develop healthier ways to cope.
Core Principles of CBT:
• Psychological issues often stem from distorted or negative thinking.
• Unhelpful behaviors can be identified, challenged, and changed.
• With support, individuals can learn tools to better manage their emotions and daily life.
CBT empowers people to take control of their mental well-being through practical strategies and long-term mindset shifts.

Talking out, processing, and noticing distorted thought patterns with a trained professional can be an important part of healing.

But what happens if you spend years in talk therapy and only see minor improvements? It’s not your fault. It’s not your therapist’s fault. There’s a reason why talk therapy only goes so far.
Talk therapy only appeals to the rational, logical side of our brain, when our trauma doesn’t speak the same language.
Read more about why talk therapy isn’t working and how you can start making quicker, more long-lasting changes in your treatment.
