Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our community. These stories reflect what we stand for as an organization and showcase how we strive for excellence in everything we do, through meaningful connection, clear communication, and exceptional senior care.

We believe seniors should feel supported both physically and emotionally. Daily life can present unique challenges for those living with dementia, which is why we focus on creating thoughtful, comfortable living spaces that feel like home.

This monthā€™s STRIVE story is from Agassiz Seniors Community and Glenwood Seniors Community:
A dedicated working group was established to improve the environment of the BSTN Care Unit, specifically for Residents requiring specialized dementia care. The initiative centres on creating a comforting, home-like setting by incorporating thoughtful design, sensory comfort, and familiar elements. This approach aims to support the emotional well-being, dignity, and daily experiences of Residents, reflecting a commitment to person-centred care. By fostering a sensory-friendly and familiar atmosphere, the program helps Residents, families, and staff feel engaged, supported, and at ease. Ultimately, the initiative promotes dignity and well-being for Residents while also bringing joy and purpose to families and staff, strengthening connections and creating a greater sense of home for everyone involved.

Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our community. These stories reflect what we stand for as an organization and showcase how we strive for excellence in everything we do, through meaningful connection, clear communication, and exceptional senior care.

Across the Park Place communities, we value creating an environment where residents feel welcomed and able to be themselves. Thoughtful programming allows everyone to make new friends, get creative, and have fun. When activities are designed around residentsā€™ personal interests and abilities, they feel more included, and our community is strengthened.

This monthā€™s STRIVE story is from Shaughnessy Seniors Community in Port Coquitlam:

The recreation department underwent a major transformation, introducing a vibrant calendar of activities such as baking, pet therapy, church services, Bingo, breakfast and lunch clubs, happy hours, ice cream socials, high tea, live entertainment, garden walks, bus outings, and specialized dementia programming. Community connections were expanded by welcoming local students for performances and sing-alongs. Soniaā€™s creative leadership was instrumental in driving these enhancements, which have significantly improved residentsā€™ quality of life, increased family satisfaction, and fostered greater pride and collaboration within the team.

We take care of the housekeeping, laundry, and home maintenance, giving you more time for hobbies, seeing friends, or visiting with family.

You have the freedom to spend your days however you like. Chef-prepared meals are included, so thereā€™s no need to grocery shop, cook, or clean up, but if you love to cook, you can still do that too. With onsite amenities, activities, outings, and welcoming shared spaces, you can join in or simply enjoy your own routine.

When people think about different levels of care in retirement communities, one of the first questions is about everyday routines. A big one that often comes up is mealtimes.

Meals are an important part of the day, and what support looks like changes across different levels of care.

In Independent Living, mealtime looks similar to living on your own. Cooking in your own suite, eating on your own schedule, or sharing a chef-prepared meal with others.

In Type B (Supportive Living), seniors receive support at mealtime if itā€™s needed, and personal routines and preferences are still respected. Meals continue to be something residents look forward to and enjoy.

In Type A care, dining is part of a fully supported environment, where meals are thoughtfully prepared and help is always available. Your loved one is always cared for with dignity and attention at mealtimes.

Across every level of support, the goal is to preserve independence where possible, provide help when needed, and create moments of comfort, familiarity, and joy.
