Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders Workshop with the incredible Linda D’Onofrio.
This wasn’t just a weekend of professional development—it was a transformative experience. The knowledge I gained will fundamentally shift how I approach my work as an SLP. From assessment to intervention, I feel empowered, informed, and excited to bring this insight into my practice.

Grateful for the opportunity, the guidance, and the community of learners who made this weekend unforgettable.
And as a bonus? I got to reconnect with my amazing colleagues from the University of Alberta’s 2012 Speech-Language Pathology graduating class—what a full-circle moment!

Huge shoutout to our incredible SLPAs—Janis, Kyra, and Tiana—who not only joined the grad celebration in their beautiful ribbon skirts 🧵 handmade by local community members, but also poured their hearts 💖 into supporting students all year long. 👏 Your dedication will make a lasting impact!

And that’s a RaP! This week Sarah & Janis co-facilitated a Reading and Play (RaP) summer camp for the children of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. They were joined by team lead - Colleen (Inclusive Ed Consultant extraordinaire) and Renelle (the remarkable GP Head Start leader). It was a sunny 🌞 fun filled learning week for both the camp leaders and children. We are so grateful to be a part of the community’s summer programming for the kids! We will be joining the community again for a Speech & Language camp later this summer! ☀️

World Book Day! Here are a few favourites for repetitive text. Repetitive text books gives children lots of chances to hear the same word/s and provides opportunities for them to jump in! These listed books specifically, have simple repetitive words that are suitable for children with severe speech sound disorders and/or childhood apraxia of speech. What makes a suitable word? - words that are simple in their syllable shape and have less complex phonemes (consonants and vowels). These types of books help teach verbal imitation with their repetitiveness and simple words.

Sarah, SLP. Janis, SLP-A. Justine, SLP-A. These wonderful speech-language pathology assistants do the bulk of Foundations school-based caseloads. Everyday they drive to rural areas to provide services to their students. Our community is very lucky to have such dedicated professionals helping our children.

Let me introduce myself - My name is Sarah Anderson and I am the owner/operator of Foundations Speech & Language Services based out of Grande Prairie, AB.

In 2012, I started my career working on a school-based multidisciplinary team. This position provided an invaluable source of information and opportunity, and I was blessed with all the relationships I acquired during that time. However, in 2021, I decided to start a pediatric SLP private practice to work more closely with families and clients.

I was born and raised in beautiful BC, but am an Albertan now! I attended UNBC in Prince George, BC for my undergraduate degree and then completed my Masters in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Alberta.

I am in my 9th year practicing and the learning continues. Speech-language pathology is a broad profession, so I stick with the pediatric population. I can serve all pediatric communication disorders, but my passion is helping non-speaking children/youth learn & use alternative and augmentative communication systems and children with phonological and motor speech impairments.
