❄️Winter Gratitude!❄️

We don’t need to remind anyone how cold and snowy this December has been! 😂

Through it all, we’re feeling incredibly grateful. Over the last few years, we’ve been blessed with two reliable vehicles generously donated by members of our community. These vehicles help us brave the weather, run essential errands, and safely transport our participants—no matter what winter throws our way.

Thank you for your generosity and support. It truly makes a difference, and we appreciate it more than words can say. 💙

❤️ Despair to Love ❤️

“Joy to the world, the Lord is come!” – Luke 2:10

Once drowning in despair, dressed in dark clothing, covered with a hoodie, keeping to himself, he now shares his story, looking for opportunities to help and is 5 months sober. He is a living testimony of what hope can do: it can transform into love.

Every smile, every song, every healed heart began with one generous gift.

🎁 Bring love this Christmas. Give to the Gift of HOPE Campaign.

✨ A Big Thank You to Esther Cram! ✨

Last week in Esther’s art class at Rising Above, she brought in gingerbread houses for our participants to build and decorate. Each group created a house that was completely unique—full of creativity, detail, and Christmas cheer! 🍬🍭

Some of these wonderful gingerbread houses are now on display in the classroom for our residents to enjoy, helping spread the holiday spirit throughout Rising Above.

Thank you, Esther, for sharing your creativity and helping make this season a little brighter for everyone! 💙

🤝 Community Partners Appreciation! 🤝

A huge thank you to Mark's Work Wearhouse Grande Prairie! A few times a year, they generously donate new and unused clothing and shoes that they can’t sell.

These donations help us provide essential items to our participants, many of whom live on limited income while they are here in treatment. This week, they were SO excited to receive much-needed winter clothing and boots! ❄️🧥

We continue to be amazed by how this community steps up and supports this ministry when we need it most. 💙

💫 Breaking Cycles of Defeat 💫

On Wednesday, we honoured an extraordinary moment — the graduation of Tripp and Royal from the Rising Above program. What a powerful testimony of courage, healing, and determination.

The road has not been easy, yet we are so proud of these two amazing individuals. They have shown the world what resilience truly looks like. Their journey reminds us that restoration is real, and that hope always has the final word.

Here’s to new beginnings… to continued growth… and to breaking cycles of defeat — today and every day forward. 💙✨

🎄 Food Donations at the Northern Spirit Light Show 🎄

Food donations dropped off at the Northern Spirit Light Show will be supporting Rising Above this year!

Your donations help our participants keep their cost of living down while they are in treatment. Many of our participants are on income supports as they transition into our program, and these donations allow us to provide meals they can prepare themselves. This not only meets a basic need, but also helps build important life skills, self-worth, and confidence.

✨ The Northern Spirit Light Show is on now until December 31, so head down to Evergreen and experience it while you can!

We are so thankful for the continued support our community shows us—it truly makes a difference. 💙

📢 We’re Hiring! Reception & Team Support Coordinator

Rising Above is seeking a confident and compassionate individual to join our team as a Reception & Team Support Coordinator. This key role provides reception services and administrative support that keep our ministry operating smoothly day-to-day.

As the first point of contact, you will help create a welcoming, professional, and safe environment for participants, donors, partners, volunteers, and visitors. Who We’re Looking For:
✔ Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
✔ Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to say “no” when necessary
✔ Confident in following policies and setting respectful boundaries
✔ Calm under pressure and able to respond appropriately to challenging or crisis moments

🎉 Mourning to Joy 🎉

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5

For many, Christmas once meant quiet tears — a reminder of loss, loneliness, and regret.

But through the Gift of HOPE, hearts are finding joy again. Laughter fills rooms once silent. Light returns where grief lingered. Hope is born — just as Christ was.

This Christmas morning, you can help turn mourning into joy.

🎄✨ Give the Gift of HOPE today — because joy is meant to be shared. 💛

Our Story

Rising Above started as a small men’s recovery center in 2007 in downtown Grande Prairie. Our focus at the time was on those who were facing chronic homelessness and addictions. Since the beginning, we have based our 6-Month Residential Treatment Program on our H.E.L.P.S model (Housing, Employment Readiness, Life-Skills, Personal Development, and Spiritual Formation). By using this model, countless people have embraced recovery and learned vital skills to help them integrate back into society and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
