🌟 Day 5 of our 30 Days of Children's Grief Series! 🌟

When it comes to grief, early support matters. đź’™

Children who receive understanding and care soon after a loss are better able to process their emotions, build healthy coping tools, and feel less alone in their experience.

Grief doesn’t go away on its own — but with early, compassionate support, children can learn that their feelings are valid and that healing is possible.

Let’s keep creating spaces where children can talk, ask questions, and be met with empathy.

Day 3 of 30 đź’™

In today’s digital world, grief doesn’t fade when the screen goes dark. For many children and teens, loss lives quietly inside their phones, in old photos, saved voice notes, and text messages they can’t bring themselves to delete. These small digital traces become powerful reminders of love, comfort, and connection.

Scrolling through pictures or listening to a familiar voice can bring warmth, but it can also stir deep sadness. For young people growing up online, these moments are part of how they remember, reflect, and stay close to the person they’ve lost. Their digital spaces hold memories, rituals, and emotions that previous generations kept in photo albums or letters.

As adults, we can guide children to honour these digital memories with care, by saving them in a special folder, talking about what they mean, or choosing when and how to revisit them.

🌟 Day 2 of our 30 Days of Children's Grief Series! 🌟

Today, we’re exploring the question: What is children's grief?

đź’™ Understanding Children's Grief:
Children’s grief is how young people cope with the loss of a loved one. Each child may experience a unique mix of emotions, behaviours, and even physical responses, influenced by their age, personality, and the support around them.

đź’” How Grief Affects Children:
Grief can impact children’s emotions, behaviours, and health. They might feel sadness, anger, or confusion, sometimes all at once. Creating a safe space for them to share their feelings helps them begin to cope.

💙 November marks Children’s Grief Awareness Month — a reminder that children experience grief just as deeply as adults, even if they express it differently.

This month shines a light on the unique ways children understand and cope with loss, and on the importance of the caring adults who support them along the way.

By acknowledging children’s grief, we help build a world where young people feel safe to talk about their feelings, share their stories, and find hope after loss.

There’s a kind of grief that begins long before the funeral.
It starts in hospitals and medical offices—sitting through appointments, hearing the words you wish you hadn’t.
It begins quietly, when you start noticing the fatigue in their eyes, the way they’re too tired to hide how bad it’s getting.

You start grieving while you’re still holding their hand.
You learn to smile while breaking inside.
You help them eat, get comfortable, take their medicine—doing every small thing that keeps them okay for another day.

You pretend to be strong because you don’t want them to see your fear.
You nod when doctors talk, take notes you’ll never want to read again.
You’re running on coffee and nerves and whatever keeps you upright.
You watch the clock but never want time to move.
You stay beside them, doing what needs to be done, because you can’t imagine being anywhere else.

You’re exhausted in every way a person can be, but you keep going.
You brush their hair back, hold their hand, make sure they’re comfortable, whisper you love them.
You keep showing up with whatever you have left, because this is it—
the last stretch of loving them here.
You hold on tight while the world starts to let go.
And you pour every ounce of love you have into the space between now and goodbye.
