This winter in Alberta, we've seen a heartbreaking number of tragedies and catastrophic injuries involving drivers who pulled over on the side of highways.

It's an important reminder: the shoulder of a busy road is never truly safe. A damaged rim or flat tire can be replaced — a life cannot.

If your vehicle is still drivable, keep going slowly to the nearest exit, gas station, or side street. If you must stop, pull as far onto the shoulder as possible, away from curves and hills, and turn on your hazards immediately. If you have to get out, use the passenger-side door and move well away from traffic.

And to everyone driving: slow down and move over when you see flashing lights or stopped vehicles.

👉 Here is Real Cost of Last-Minute Safety Training in Oil and Gas

Last-minute safety training rarely looks expensive on paper. The real cost shows up elsewhere.

When certification expires unexpectedly:
- Crews lose productive hours
- Schedules are reshuffled
- Supervisors scramble to fill gaps
- Full-day retraining replaces shorter renewal options

🦺None of this improves safety outcomes. It only increases operational friction. Blended renewal programs exist to reduce downtime, but only when eligibility rules are respected and timelines are managed properly. Waiting until the final days before expiry removes that flexibility.

Organizations that run efficiently understand that safety training is not a checkbox. It is a workflow that needs lead time.
