Relating comes from cultivating relationship.

Coming into relationship with the land looks like returning again and again, through sun and fog, dusk, day and dawn, through seasonal changes. Through going back to the same river bend often enough that something in you relaxes before you even arrive. Through the moment you catch yourself saying, in your chest more than your mind, “hello, friend”.

That is where relationship begins. Not in knowing from books, not in once in a

while ceremony but in familiarity through all changes and transformations.

The natural world is not a backdrop to our life, it’s not a weekend hike and then forgotten when we are tapped back into the grid.. The natural world is our world, our earthly vessels, the quantum intelligent interface suits that house our spirits in the earthly realm, these vessels are part of the natural world, they are made of her materials. The nutrients we eat become us. So where in your mind does nature begin and end? Where do you begin and end? From what perspective?

The butterflies and bees moving between flowers are part of a conversation that has been going on longer than any of us can hold in our minds. Pollinating the food that sustains us, offering sweetness and medicine as an additional blessing. Beneath the forest floor, mycelium threads between root systems, carrying nutrients and information between trees, so they can adjust, support one another, share what each one needs to stay alive. And they exchange sacred, life sustaining breath with us, material to build and keep warm with, shade and fruits and medicines. The trees are not competing with one another or us. They are in reciprocal relationship with one another and are generous in their gifts to us. How are we honouring that reciprocity in our forgotten memories of how to give thanks, only take what we need and giving offerings in return like prayers, gratitude and sharing in our movement of spreading seeds. Our ways long lost, and now we stumble to find our way back home to be in reciprocity to the generosity of Nature that sustains us.

We have heard so much about how fast the Fire Horse year will be. But most of that has been broad strokes, missing the nuance of how we can truly support ourselves and the depth of energy available to us.

Our Western-trained minds want to jump straight to cause and effect, to something linear, something predictable. But to truly honour these energetics, we have to step into a dynamic, living, relational field.

Fast relative to what?
What kind of fast?

Is it chaotic and out of control?
Is it a horse running in fear?
Or one wild and strong, wind at its back, intention in its heart?

In Daoist astrology, the Horse aligns with the phase of the summer solstice, the fifth lunar month of June. The sun is at its brightest. The days are longest. It is the most yang time of the year. Everything is radiant, vibrant, ripe. This is peak energy.

Horses embody strength and endurance. Horse ancestors supported humanity in great leaps of agriculture, distance travel, warfare, and sport.

In wild horse packs, movement and guidance come from the horse whose sensing is most attuned. The one who can feel danger or the need to move through clear perception.

My friend Alex, who works in equine therapy, recently shared how a horse’s heart field is far wider than our own. Horses can sense shifts and intentions from a much greater distance. For a prey species, this attunement is survival. They read the field before the field becomes visible.

I remember being at a Daoist martial arts training camp in 2019 with my shifu, Lindsey Wei of Wudang White Horse, in the mountains of Ukiah, California. White wild horses would pass through the area as we practiced morning qi gong. Our intention was centered on cultivating heart-spirit qi. The horses would draw near.

I share this because horses are not only powerful. They are gentle, sensitive, healing.

They run fast to be free in the wind.
They also run from fear.
It depends on how their heart reads the field.

The Fire phase in the Daoist Five Transformations corresponds with summer. Its meridians are the Heart and the Small Intestine.

Health & Wellness Healing Arts Retreat Centre. We have alternative healing modalities such as Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture with a R.Ac licensed acupuncturist, shiatsu, qi gong, meditation, whole food counselling, yoga, sound journeys with crystal singing bowls and chimes and creative arts exploration such as creating colour on fabric with plants we harvest. We host retreats, group and private. We offer certain dates for solo retreat, like a wellness bed and breakfast.
