Current evidence emphasizes the importance of education, 🧑🏫 exercise therapy 💪🏻 and diet 🍽️ in the non-pharmacologic and non-surgical management of Osteoarthritis (OA).
✨EDUCATION✨ aimed at promoting self-management and long term participation in a therapeutic program
✨EXERCISE✨ should be individualized, structured and supervised in the early stage of rehab
✨DIETARY INTERVENTIONS✨ should be implemented in combination with exercise to achieve or maintain a healthy body weight and manage systemic inflammation
In addition to the multimodal approach outlined above, there is some evidence to support the use of biomechanical interventions such as braces,🦿shoe insoles/wedges,👟 gait retraining🚶and canes. Manual therapy 💆 and modalities 🧊 can also be helpful for short term improvements in pain and function.
Physiotherapy for OA can be helpful at any stage‼️Proactive strategies can be beneficial even when you have minimal pain or restriction; this can help to minimize the impact on your function in the future. Your Physiotherapist will work with you to create a plan that suits your needs and your lifestyle👌
