As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, November invites us inward — a season of slowing down, reflection, and gentleness. This month, our focus is on Ahimsa, the first of the Yamas in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga.
Ahimsa translates to non-violence or non-harming, but its meaning runs much deeper than simply avoiding physical harm. It asks us to practice compassion — in thought, word, and action — toward ourselves and others.
On the mat, Ahimsa means moving with awareness and respect for your body’s limits. It’s choosing to rest instead of pushing through pain, or breathing through frustration instead of forcing a pose.
Off the mat, it might look like:
✨ Speaking kindly to yourself and others
✨ Making mindful choices that support your well-being
✨ Letting go of judgment and comparison
✨ Practicing patience — with your body, your practice, and your life
Ahimsa reminds us that yoga isn’t just about how we move, but how we live.
When we act from a place of non-harming, we cultivate peace — within ourselves and in the world around us.
Let this month be a practice in gentle awareness. Notice where you can soften, release tension, and bring kindness into the smallest moments of your day.
