A new designer eyewear business has emerged in Akwesasne, Canada. The trendy frames of Io:ken Designs features original artwork by Mohawk artist, Bruce Boots, that is not only beautiful but steeped in cultural designs that speak to the honour, pride and history of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people and other Indigenous Nations.

Ió:ken which is pronounced Yo:kenh or Yo:gah and translates to “It’s Clear” in the Kanien’keha (Mohawk) language was born out of a dynamic partnership with Artist Bruce Boots, Dr. Danielle Dubuc, Optometrist and Project Manager, Gail Mc Donald who were inspired to create designer eyewear that would represent and honour Indigenous peoples and their strong and resilient cultures.
