🌿 Understanding the 5 Stages of Burnout
Burnout unfolds gradually, often creeping in before we realize what’s happening. These five stages help make sense of the experience:
1. The Honeymoon Stage
You start off energized, optimistic, and highly motivated. Stress exists, but it feels manageable because enthusiasm is still fueling you.
2. Enmeshment
Responsibilities begin to pile up. Boundaries blur, stress increases, and you may start overextending yourself to keep everything afloat.
3. The Crisis Stage
Stress becomes overwhelming. You might feel anxious, exhausted, irritable, or emotionally distant. Your well‑being and performance begin to noticeably decline.
4. Chronic Symptoms
Fatigue, sleep issues, cynicism, and emotional depletion become persistent. You may feel stuck or hopeless as symptoms become harder to ignore.
5. The Balancing Act
You recognize the need for change and begin seeking healthier habits, boundaries, and support to restore balance and prevent further burnout.
