February is Heart Health Month — and what better time to show your heart some love than with Valentine’s Day coming up? ❤️
Small lifestyle habits can go a long way in supporting heart health at every age. Staying active, eating well, managing stress, and maintaining social connections all help keep hearts strong — physically and emotionally.
🧘♀️ Gentle Daily Movement: Short walks indoors or outdoors (weather permitting), light stretching, simple activities like tidying, cooking, or dancing to music
🥗 Heart-Healthy Eating: More fruits and vegetables (especially leafy greens), lean proteins like fish, chicken, eggs, and legumes, whole grains instead of refined carbohydrates, reducing excess salt to help manage blood pressure
☎️ Stay Socially Connected: Regular phone or video calls with family, sharing meals or activities together, companion services to reduce isolation
🎶 Manage Stress Gently: Deep breathing exercises, listening to calming music, enjoying hobbies like reading, puzzles, or crafts
😴 Prioritize Sleep: Aim for consistent sleep routines, create a calm bedtime environment, address discomfort or mobility needs that may disrupt rest
At UHC, we encourage families to care for their hearts together! If you would like help creating a healthy hear plan, we can help!
