Statement on Incident
RCMP Search for Suspect February 6 - 7, 2026

Last night, residents of Zagimē witnessed a significant RCMP presence and searches within yards on the South side of the reserve. The RCMP responded to multiple 911 calls regarding disturbances within the core area of the reserve. No public information was immediately disclosed to avoid impeding the RCMP's investigation. Had there been an immediate risk to residents, a shelter-in-place warning would have been issued.

The subject of the search, Keagan Panipekeesick, was apprehended at approximately 1:00 pm today, February 7, 2026.

We extend our gratitude to the community members who called 911 and everyone who communicated with each other during last night's events. We understand that the situation caused alarm and fear, particularly among the young people who encountered the suspect.

Please be assured that our community will work together to protect one another. The Chief and Council will maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, threats, and intimidation against community members.

We appreciate the prompt response and support from the Broadview RCMP and Cowessess Peacekeepers in ensuring the safety of our people.
