🦄 Happy International Women’s Day 💜

I’ve been thinking about this year’s International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain. The more I sit with it, the more I think about how much women give every single day. We give our time, our energy, our ideas, our care. We hold space for friends, families, workplaces, communities.

Sometimes the giving is big and visible.
Sometimes it’s quiet and behind the scenes.

Yet the real “gain” often isn’t something we can measure. It’s the ripple effect.

It’s the way encouragement helps another woman try something brave.
It’s the way celebrating someone else’s win reminds her she isn’t doing it alone.
It’s the way support creates spaces where women feel safe enough to grow, speak up, and take up more space.

When women give to each other in those ways, something powerful happens.
We create communities where women rise together. 💪🏼💟

Today I’m feeling especially grateful for the women in my life who lift me up, laugh with me, challenge me, and remind me who I am when I forget. I'm also giving a shout out to my daughter, who teaches me every day to stay playful, love big, and stop worrying so much about what everyone else thinks. She asks me, in the most beautiful way, to live by the words I share with others.

She reminds me that when we love ourselves and stand confidently in who we are, that energy ripples outward.

Here’s to women supporting women.
To celebration over competition.
To lifting each other higher.

Warmly, Danielle

Okay… this one made me pause.

Maple Mindset was nominated in the CommunityVotes Niagara Region campaign for Therapy and Counselling.

Which means someone, maybe a client, maybe a colleague, maybe someone who’s been quietly watching this space grow, took a minute to say, this work matters.

That feels tender.

This little office in Grimsby where we talk about grief, invisible load, nervous system regulation, boundaries, identity shifts, inner child healing, and all the things millennial women carry… it’s being seen.

And that’s because of you.

If you’ve ever sat on my couch, met in a discovery call, journaled at a Reflection circle, tried Reiki for the first time, or sent a friend my way, you are part of this.

If you’d like to support a local nurse psychotherapist offering therapy in Niagara Region, you can nominate Maple Mindset under Therapy and Counselling.

No pressure. Just gratitude.

With love,
Danielle

Some days my nervous system wakes up itchy and rushed, like everything has to be done right now. That urgency can make even small things feel loud and heavy.

Today I am practicing choosing one slow, grounded thing and letting that be enough, because gentle pacing actually supports emotional wellness, nervous system regulation, and burnout prevention more than forcing my way through a list ever has.

Drop a 🐢 if this is your vibe today too so we can normalize the slow together

Before I ever sat in a therapy chair, I sat at the bedside.

My years in bedside nursing, medical surgical, and intensive care shaped how I understand vulnerability, fear, and what it means to be seen in hard moments. That experience follows me into my work as a nurse psychotherapist, where mental health therapy is about more than just insight. It is about safety, pacing, and a therapeutic relationship that feels warm and human.

Nursing taught me that mental health lives in the body too. That stress, overwhelm, and emotional load do not show up in neat little boxes. So my approach to psychotherapy is intentionally holistic, trauma informed, and rooted in the mind body connection.

Sometimes it feels like your body, your life experiences, and your emotional world are all tangled together. You are not imagining that. Mental health therapy works best when the whole picture is welcomed.

This might be the right kind of support for you if you are craving therapy that feels grounded, human, and whole. When that resonates, I’m your gal.

Some days it shows up easily. Other days it feels gone. For a long time, I used to think that meant something was wrong with me.

Lately, I’m starting to see that motivation isn’t meant to carry everything. It’s a feeling, not a requirement. Sometimes what actually helps us keep going isn’t motivation at all, it’s a quieter kind of structure that feels supportive instead of pushing.

Discipline doesn’t have to look like grinding harder. It can be about:
- lowering the bar to meet yourself
- responding with care instead of criticism
- pausing, breathing, and moving from steadiness rather than pressure
- noticing what you really need instead of forcing forward

We’re all learning this. You’re not behind. You’re paying attention, and that matters.

💙 It’s Blue Monday.

If today feels heavy, flat, or tender, you’re not doing anything wrong.

This time of year can impact our mental health in very real ways. Shorter days, colder weather, ongoing stress, and the pressure to “push through” all affect our nervous system. Mental health is physical health. It lives in the body. In our energy, our sleep, our emotions, and our ability to cope.

Low mood, emotional fatigue, brain fog, irritability, or that quiet sense of heaviness aren’t personal failures. They’re signals. Your body is asking for safety, rest, and gentleness. This is the mind body connection at work, not something to fix, but something to listen to. Something to align with.

Today doesn’t need to be productive or positive.
It can be slower.
It can be neutral.
It can be soft.

And if this season feels heavier than usual, therapy can be a supportive tool. Having a space to slow down, feel supported, and tend to your nervous system can make a meaningful difference during winter months. You don’t have to carry it alone.

Soft days count too 🤍

I thought I was going on a vacation, but my nervous system had other plans.

It is not really about a trip.
It is about what happens when you stop waiting for a better time to feel, rest and reconnect with yourself.

It is about nervous system healing, slowing down and learning to receive without questioning your worth.

If you have been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or like you keep putting yourself last, this reflection might feel like a soft place to land.

You can read it through the link in my bio.

Today my family is moving through a really tender transition. I’ve been reflecting on so many of the lessons I talk about in my work and try to live in my own life. We said goodbye to our dog, Myles, and even in the heartbreak I am reminded of how these moments teach us about love, connection and what it means to be human.

Moments like this pull everything into perspective. They slow you down, almost forcing you into presence, asking you to notice what actually matters. Myles has been part of our story for so long and in his own quiet way he reminded me of the simple things we often forget, the things I encourage clients to return to, the things that anchor emotional wellness.

He taught me that love is made in the everyday. It is not the grand gestures. It is showing up. It is choosing presence. It is gratitude tucked inside the small things like snuggles on the couch, playful chaos in the kitchen or just sitting beside someone who makes you feel safe. These are the moments that regulate us, ground us and bring us back to ourselves.

Grief asks us to hold our tenderness with care. It softens the edges enough for us to feel what we would normally rush past. As I honour this chapter with Myles, I am reminded that sadness and love can live side by side.

If you are moving through something heavy too, I hope you give yourself permission to feel all of it, to slow down, and to trust that healing often happens in the quiet in between moments.

As a therapist in the Niagara region, I love seeing community initiatives that strengthen mental health support for families. Project PLAID by Pathstone Mental Health is one of those programs.

It not only raises awareness about child and youth mental health in Niagara, it also supports the parents I often work with, helping them understand what to look for, how to access services and how to feel less alone in the process. When caregivers have clearer pathways to support, it reduces stress, builds confidence and creates a healthier foundation for the whole family.

At Maple Mindset, I see every day how important accessible resources and community care are for parents navigating anxiety, overwhelm and emotional load. Project PLAID is another meaningful step toward a Niagara that prioritizes mental wellness for everyone.

I’m beyond grateful to share that Maple Mindset was awarded First Runner Up for the Rising Star New Business Award at the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce Business Awards!

This recognition means so much, not just for me as a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist and female entrepreneur, but for the heart behind Maple Mindset. When I started this journey, my dream was to create a space in Grimsby where millennial women could come home to themselves, find connection, and feel supported in their healing, growth, and self-discovery.

To be recognized among so many inspiring Niagara businesses is such an honour. 💛

A huge thank-you to the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce for celebrating local small businesses, and to my incredible clients, family, and community who continue to believe in what I’m building here at Maple Mindset.

Here’s to continuing to grow, connect, and bring compassionate, holistic therapy and wellness to our community.
