meet our new teammate: CONNOR MARTINEZ, RMT

Connor was born and raised in Cambridge and is excited to be joining team function supporting the Guelph and surrounding communities. An avid athlete growing up, he played hockey, football, lacrosse, and basketball. He was set to play university football, but his season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Connor completed his studies at Conestoga College, proudly graduating with High Distinction and as the first and only male in his class!

He has a strong interest in working with athletes and individuals with chronic conditions. As a former athlete turned Registered Massage Therapist, he applies a performance-focused approach to care—supporting clients in managing chronic pain, rehabilitating injuries, correcting muscular imbalances, and relieving trigger points. His ultimate goal is to help clients move better, recover faster, and live stronger.

Too many exciting team updates so we’re sharing them all in one post!!
andrewthomson is now certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) and is excited to introduce GOLF FITNESS at function! This includes assessment screening, chiropractic care and fitness programming to protect your body and unlock your game! ⛳️
stephromero has launched babes + co fitness collective, a fitness community for growing families. As an adjunct to her 1-on-1 practice, she is excited to utilize her extensive background in group exercise to bring clinical small group postpartum rehab and baby-wearing dance fitness classes to the community! 💪🏼
nd is BACK in clinic after her maternity leave! She and her husband welcomed baby girl, Addison in October. We are so excited to welcome her back and even more excited to have the cutest neice ever! 💞 (can you see the relation between Dr. Sarah and Dr. Andrew?)
natasha has officially begun her maternity leave as she prepares to welcome her baby girl next month! We wish her all the best in this chapter of her life and will miss her shining personality in the meantime. She will be back in the fall. 🌻

We are thrilled to welcome chiropractor, to team function! His firsthand experience with the physical demands of sports drives his commitment to helping athletes, active individuals, and those with MSK pain return to their best performance, pain-free.👊🏽

Lastly, we say good bye and good luck to .nd as she embarks on a solo practice downtown. We appreciate her contributions and support to the team especially through Dr. Sarah’s maternity leave! 🌱

Oh baby!!!

Today is Dr. Sarah’s last day in clinic and will be taking a short maternity leave returning in February 2025!

We wish her all the best in this exciting time as her and her husband prepare for the arrival of their sweet baby girl!💕
During her time away, Dr. Mackenzie, ND is pleased to provide continued care (including B12 injections and acupuncture) for any of Dr. Sarah’s patients.

Dr. Sarah is a women’s health focused Naturopathic Doctor. She loves working with women searching for answers to their hormonal concerns, those on their fertility, pregnancy and postpartum journeys, as well as providing support during the perimenopause and postmenopause years.

Educating and empowering women about their hormonal health is something Dr. Sarah strives to do, as she feels strongly about women having autonomy over their own health. She has been in your shoes, unsure where to go next for answers, which is when she found naturopathic medicine. She then knew she wanted to provide this type of care so that others could start finding the answers they’ve been looking for as well!

When working with Dr. Sarah, you can expect a compassionate, thoughtful and in-depth experience, leaving you feeling well supported. She takes an evidence-based approach to both assessment and treatment, routinely recommending blood work and utilizing supplementation, herbal medicine, nutrition, lifestyle and acupuncture in her treatment plans.

When not in the clinic, Dr. Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, preferably by water with good friends and family… bonus if it’s a sunny summer day with country music playing in the background.

Dr. Mackenzie is thrilled to be a part of the team at function health + wellness as she was born and raised in this lovely community. A Bachelors in Nutritional and Nutraceutical sciences at the University of Guelph led her down the Naturopathic medical route which has changed her perspective on health and wellness in her own life.

During her fourth year clinical year, she had the opportunity to learn from a renowned ND in Honolulu Hawaii whose focus in sport’s medicine and hormonal health sparked her own interest in these areas.

Dr. Mackenzie is trained to treat a range of health concerns, but has a clinical focus in hormonal health (irregular periods, PCOS, PMS), pediatric care, and fatigue/burnout.

She has always been interested in evidence-based medicine and working in a team-based setting. She highly values open conversation and ensuring you feel comfortable speaking about any health concerns or goals.

Dr. Mackenzie prides herself on you understanding the why and how of the treatment plan made specifically for you. She strives for balance and moderation in her own life, while working hard to reach a healthy state of being.
Dr. Mackenzie values collaborative care and is happy to meet you where you’re at to reach your specific goals!

Elizabeth is proud to have been able to call Guelph her home all her life and is pleased to bring her skills as an RMT to the community. Elizabeth is a graduate of Humber College in the Spring of 2022, where she earned honors and received the highest overall cumulative GPA in her program. These accomplishments reflect her hard work and dedication to the massage therapy profession.

Elizabeth always knew she wanted a fulfilling career helping others. Massage therapy aligned best with her interests as it covers an intensive knowledge of human anatomy, movement and wellness. She has been an active individual starting with dance, tae kwon do, track, basketball and most importantly, soccer – in fact, she is currently still playing competitively! Participating in these activities she has experienced first-hand the injuries that can occur. Experiencing these injuries and being surrounded by the circle of rehabilitative care gave her an insight into the importance of prevention and rehabilitation.

Elizabeth is dedicated to helping her clients reach their goals. Elizabeth will gain a thorough understanding of your concerns, perform assessments where needed and provide each patient with a treatment plan incorporating each individual’s unique goals, keeping her patients informed through every step.

Elizabeth has experience aiding in the treatment of symptoms associated with headaches + migraines, TMJD, post-sporting event recovery, and acute pain . If your goal is to relax, she’s got you covered there too, helping the mind and body. She most recently participated in a workshop focusing on treatment of the head, neck and face. 💆🏻‍♀️

When Elizabeth isn’t at the clinic you can find her at local artisan markets, on the lake, spending time with friends and family or at a country concert.

Born and raised here in Guelph, Natasha grew up as a very active kid, playing sports and always having fun outdoors. She played one year of varsity hockey before deciding to focus on her studies. Natasha completed her schooling at Mohawk College in Hamilton and has been practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist since fall of 2021.

As a former athlete and now RMT, she is able to use her knowledge to help individuals with setbacks from injuries and prioritize health and wellness to be able to get back to everyday life. She uses various massage techniques such as, Swedish, fascial, cupping, deep tissue, myofascial trigger point and stretching. She will almost always teach clients something new to go home with so they may be educated and invested in their own wellness journey!

Natasha also has an interest in working with pregnant individuals who are going through many different changes both emotionally and physically during pregnancy. From growing pains, to just wanting to relax, Natasha provides a soothing touch.

Outside of the clinic you can find Natasha working on her own health goals, exploring the outdoors with her dog, and spending time with family and friends on the boat.

We are thrilled to re-introduce Laura Dawkins, RMT and as of March, RMT Team Lead! In this role, Laura is the point person for our RMT team, facilitating rounds for clinical growth as well as coordinating community initiatives for team function. Laura is a nurturing and empathetic practitioner whose intuitive touch serves to alleviate tension, heal soft tissue injuries, and enhance mobility. With a compassionate approach, she ensures each client leaves the treatment room feeling rejuvenated and restored.

Passionate about holistic well-being, Laura enjoys supporting individuals with emotional disorders, mental disabilities, chronic pain, and fatigue. Drawing from her background in education, she finds joy in guiding children and youth toward cultivating lifelong healthy habits.
In her practice, Laura offers a tailored experience, blending techniques such as cupping, dynamic stretching, joint mobilizations, deep tissue work, and Indian head massage to address the specific needs and goals of her clients.

Beyond her therapeutic work, Laura cherishes moments outdoors, often exploring muddy trails with her faithful companion Tucker or indulging in a good book bathed in sunlight. She also relishes friendly competition on the softball field!

Goal: Driven by her love for community engagement, Laura aims to attend as many local festivals and markets as possible.

Fun Fact: Laura has lived on the west coast, east coast, and northern Ontario!
