Counting calories can be fundamental for nutritionists but doing this isn't practical in our own life.

A good example to help understand this is, imagine if someone requires 1800 calories to lose weight without getting malnourished.

This person can eat 1800 calories of only pizza 🍕1800 calories of only apples 🍏.

So, which of the two options sounds better💁‍♀️? Well, they both aren't better because in both situations, there is an obvious lack of nutrients and food groups. This is why the quality of food is so important for our health, rather then the quantity.

So having said this, why do you restrict your diet in the first place🤔? Remember, quality over quantity.

Diversity in our food = good bacteria diversity in our gut 😊
How does this play a role in my weight?

Your gut bacteria influences the way you digest certain foods and it produces chemicals that help make you feel full. Therefore, your gut bacteria may influence your weight.

Several studies have been done to understand how this works and it has been concluded that obesity was associated with lower gut bacteria diversity. This means that people who had fewer gut bacteria also struggled with their weight 😱

The good news is that its possible to change the environment of our gut and replenish it with the good bacteria , and an easy way to do this is by eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in our diet 🥦

So, why does this happen💁‍♀️?

There are several reasons why you might gain your weight back. One of the most common reasons is restrictive dieting along with calorie restriction 😧.
Drastic changes in your energy expenditure is known to decrease metabolic rate, which will persist once you’ve reached your ideal weight.

As soon as you start losing weight, your body suddenly wants it all back. It can't tell the difference between intentional weight loss or being struck by famine. It immediately goes into protective mode, lowering your metabolism and stimulating your appetite to preserve fat stores.

On top of that, when you lose weight, your body needs fewer calories to maintain itself. However, your body prompts you to keep eating those calories to fill this "energy gap."

So, dieters don’t necessarily have worse willpower than non-dieters, but calorie deprivation has put them in a situation that requires much more willpower in order to successfully limit consumption and keep the weight from coming back.

Is this something you have struggled with personally?? I would love to hear your thoughts!

If you would like to sustainably lose weight and keep it off for good, send me a DM, or comment below the word SUSTAINABLE, so we can start moving in the right direction ✨.

If you want to change your relationship with food, where is the best place to start?
Begin by freeing yourself from the chains that hold you back.

🔅Freedom from eating without guilt
🔅Freedom from not counting calories or grams
🔅Freedom from bingeing
🔅Freedom from feeling guilty when weighing m
Yourself on a scale.

Food should never be seen as a number, cheat or guilt. Getting the nutrition right is definitely important, but it’s only half the battle. The mindset shift is the important half.

Comment “freedom” if you agree 😊

🙋‍♀️ Hi guys,

I wanted to re-introduce myself as I have noticed some new faces. I would love to tell you a bit more of what I do and about me!

🥑I work as a holistic nutritionist and specialize in PCOS

🥦I don't subscribe to a particular diet, but I once went vegan for 6 months

😁I was born in Colombia and have lived in Canada for the past 9 years

💏I got married last year to a loving husband at 23 years old

💃Aside from nutrition and exercise, my other passion is dancing (specially Latin music)

🤪I have been skydiving, bungee jumping and white water rafting (I am an adrenaline junkie).

🎓I studied a bachelors of science in Agriculture at the University of Guelph, and studied holistic nutrition at the Institute of holistic nutrition. Since then have been specializing in various nutrition related fields.

I would love to know something interesting about you, please share in the comments below! 👇

10-15% of women worldwide struggle with PCOS

After working with women that have PCOS (including myself), I noticed that after they received their diagnosis, they received very little education about PCOS, and are often prescribed "quick fixes" that mask their symptoms temporarily.

My clients were constantly told to:
- lose weight
- go on the pill
- eat less and exercise more

The reason why I decided to focus on PCOS, is to properly educate, and help women find the root cause of their symptoms so they can begin to work towards balancing their hormones, and managing their symptoms. I want women to feel like they have control over their own bodies, without going on crazy diets that wear them down over time!

If you have PCOS, understand that you are not alone! If you feel ready to manage your symptoms and feel amazing, send me a DM or comment "I am ready", so you can finally start seeing changes in your health ❤️

Indecision tends to be the number one reason why our situation doesn't change.
The steps to heal can be there but if the mindset is not, then the change wont happen.

Hope you all have a great weekend ❤️

Have you been counting calories to manage your PCOS?

I notice many doctors recommending low calorie diets as one of the solutions to manage PCOS symptoms. The reality is that these types of diets could help with weight loss, but what they don't do is address hormonal imbalances like elevated testosterone or insulin levels. In fact, they could worsen your hormone imbalance.

These types of diets are so low in calories, that they usually result in reducing fat🥑 consumption, which are essential for our hormones. If this is a diet you have been trying and you feel frustrated with it, know that it is not your fault!!
Most of the symptoms of PCOS can be improved with health promoting behaviors even if weight loss doesn't occur. However, weight loss often occurs with the implementation of these new behaviors even without it being the main focus.

There are plenty of solutions for your PCOS that don't require the stress that comes with counting calories. You can still enjoy the foods you love while improving your PCOS symptoms naturally. If you want to balance your hormones and manage your PCOS, comment below or DM me "hormones". I will ask you a couple of questions to help me better understand your personal struggle with PCOS, and lay out the next steps you need to take to feeling better and managing your symptoms naturally.

PCOS MYTH BUSTING 🤦‍♀️
Can you lose weight just like anybody else when you have PCOS? The answe is no. When you have PCOS, there are several factors that actually work against you and are making weight loss harder for you than it would be for others.

If you have been trying to lose weight for a while and have PCOS, don't beat yourself up!! It will take some time and work but the weight loss can happen once you implement the right foods, exercise or supplements that your body needs.

Comment below if you found a particular exercise helpful for losing weight with pcos 👇
