💙 Today is World Diabetes Day 💙
Diabetes affects millions of Canadians, but with awareness and early action, complications can often be prevented.
Diabetes affects how your body uses blood sugar (glucose) — your main source of energy. But Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes aren’t the same:
🩸 Type 1 Diabetes
- The body’s immune system attacks the cells that make insulin.
- Usually diagnosed in childhood or adolescence.
- People need daily insulin to survive.
🥗 Type 2 Diabetes
- The body still makes insulin but doesn’t use it effectively (insulin resistance).
- Often linked to lifestyle factors, but genetics also play a role.
- Can often be managed with healthy eating, activity, and medication.
While they differ, both types require awareness, support, and ongoing care.
Education and early detection can make a life-changing difference.
Together, let’s learn, support, and take action for healthier communities.
