We’re back for another recipe from 👩‍🍳

These cookies are packed with nutrients (including iron!) are lightly sweetened, high in fibre, and pair perfectly with your favourite morning beverage. Adapted from the cookbook Grazing by Julie Vanrosendaal, they’re a delicious cross between a cookie and a muffin. Made with seeds instead of nuts, they’re also a great nut-free snack option for kids’ lunches. See below for instructions on how to make them🍪✨

Instructions📝

➡️Pulse drained beans in a food processor (or mash by hand in a large bowl). Add oil, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Pulse and scrape down the sides until mixed.

➡️Add oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. You can do all the mixing right in the food processor simply by pulsing and scraping down the sides.

➡️By hand, stir in chocolate chips, nuts, seeds and cranberries (if using).

➡️Drop onto a prepared baking sheet using large spoonfuls. You can flatten them if you want them more crispy or leave whole if you prefer them more like mini-muffins. I like to top each cookie with a chocolate chunk and a sprinkle of seeds.

➡️Bake for 15-20 min at 350 degrees until golden brown around the edges. ENJOY!

Today is World Osteoporosis Day, a global awareness day dedicated to raising awareness about bone health and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis and related bone diseases.
Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of fractures🦴🌎

Did you know that osteoporosis risk increases during peri and post menopause?

The good news? This risk can be managed through exercise - specifically resistance exercises. Resistance training plays a significant role in slowing lean muscle and bone loss and improving bone density and strength💪

Below are some tips on how to incorporate resistance training into your routine effectively:

➡️Add resistance training 3-4 times a week to your exercise program
➡️Training needs to be progressive to stimulate bone and muscle changes over time
➡️Add balance exercises to help reduce the risk of falls

If you’re looking to incorporate more resistance training into your routine but you don’t know where to start, consider booking an appointment with one of our physiotherapists for direct support and personalized guidance📲✅

Struggling with urinary incontinence? You’re not alone💙

It’s important to understand the main types of incontinence:
➡️Stress Incontinence: Leakage with coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting, or exercise.
➡️Urge Incontinence: Sudden, strong need to go (“overactive bladder”).
➡️Mixed Incontinence: A combination of stress & urge symptoms.
➡️Overflow Incontinence: Frequent dribbling due to incomplete bladder emptying.
➡️Functional Incontinence: Leakage from mobility, pain, or cognitive challenges.

If you’re struggling with any of the symptoms above - pelvic floor physiotherapy can help you regain control by:
✨Reviewing your bladder, bowel, and pelvic health history
✨Assessing posture, breathing, and core function
✨Performing a biomechanical exam (spine, pelvis, hips)
✨Providing a personalized care plan — and a gentle pelvic exam if needed

Our team is here to work with you to reduce symptoms and help you feel more confident in daily life again. Take control of your pelvic health and consider booking an appointment with our team today📲

We’re so excited to welcome Mackenzie Carter to the GWHA Physiotherapy team! ✨🫶🏼

Get to know a little bit more about Mackenzie below ⬇️

“Prior to earning her masters degree in physiotherapy from McMaster University, Mackenzie completed her Masters Degree in Professional Kinesiology and Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology at Brock University. There she worked as a student trainer on-field and as a student sport performance coach off field with a variety of varsity teams. Following her degrees she spent time working as a kinesiologist in British Columbia focusing in on her passions for concussion rehabilitation and women’s health while working sideline with rugby teams.

Working with many teams and playing varsity women’s football herself, she has had the chance to find what drives her. Mackenzie prioritizes the ideology that rehabilitation involves not just the physical, but also the emotional and mental sides of healing. She is committed to developing person-centred treatment plans that support long term performance and well being.

During her work at the Guelph Women’s Health Clinic, Mackenzie is looking forward to learning from the incredible health performance team and embodying what it means to be a part of the Guelph Community.”

What is GSM? Let’s learn together! ⬇️

As estrogen levels decline with age, changes in the vaginal, vulvar, and bladder tissues can lead to Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).

➡️Over 50% of women experience symptoms such as:
- Vaginal dryness or itching
- Pain with in*******se
- Urinary incontinence
- Recurring UTIs or pelvic organ prolapse

These symptoms can deeply impact quality of life, social activities, and sexual relationships. And here’s the important part—GSM is progressive and does not improve as we age. Many women are not aware of the various treatment options, that’s why we’re here to explain how pelvic floor physiotherapy can support you 👏

➡️ How physiotherapy can help:
- Strengthens and improves pelvic floor muscle function
- Increases blood flow to the pelvic area
- Coordinates pelvic floor with the hips, back, and abdominals
- Provides education on treatment options (like lubricants, moisturizers, and pessaries)
- Reduces fear of movement, exercise, and sexual activity

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, you’re not alone. There are options to help you feel better and more confident 💙

We are so excited to welcome a new member to the GWHA family! Meet our newest physiotherapist, Kanzah✨🫶🏼

“I am enthusiastic about pelvic health and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, and I strive to provide evidence-based treatment tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.

My approach is grounded in empathy, active listening, and ongoing learning—ensuring that every patient feels supported and empowered throughout their recovery journey.

Outside the clinic, I’m a food enthusiast who loves experimenting with different flavors in the kitchen. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family, getting lost in a good novel, catching up on sleep (underrated!), and unwinding through doodling and creative sketching.”
