Health Equity, Accountability, and Collective Action

This year marks 10 years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, including those on health, healing, and wellness.

Reconciliation in health care requires more than acknowledgement—it requires structural change, sustained accountability, and collective action.

Braiding Accountability: A Ten-Year Review of the TRC’s Healthcare Calls to Action by the Yellowhead Institute notes, progress must be measured not only by commitments made, but by impacts experienced by Indigenous Peoples in their health, safety, and wellbeing.

At Guelph CHC, we understand reconciliation as an ongoing, shared responsibility. We commit to advancing Indigenous health equity through culturally safe care, meaningful partnerships, collective advocacy, and actions that address the root causes of health inequities.

Guelph CHC’s programs and services, including our Downtown Clinic, Shelldale Clinic, Hive Health Services, The SEED, and all EarlyON programs will be closed Thursday, December 25th, Friday, December 26th, and Thursday, January 1st. These locations will also have an early close at 1:00pm on December 24th and 31st. Phones will not be answered during closure times.

The Downtown clinic will be open Saturday, December 27th, 10:00am-2:00pm with limited appointments for urgent matters only.

The HART Hub hours will be as follows:
Wednesday, December 24th and 31st, 9am-1pm
Thursday, December 25th - closed
Friday, December 26th, 10am-3pm, with limited services
Saturday, December 27th and Sunday, December 28th, 10am-3pm with regular weekend staffing
Thursday, January 1st, 10am-3pm, with limited services

Stay Sharp will be open for regular hours at Royal City Mission throughout the holidays.

GCHC will return to regular hours Friday, January 2.

Attention: Guelph CHC’s programs and services, including our Downtown Clinic, the HART Hub and Harm Reduction services, Shelldale Clinic, Hive Health Services, and all EarlyON programs will be closed this morning - Tuesday, December 9th.
The HART Hub and Harm Reduction services will reopen at 1:30pm. All other programs and services will resume at 2pm.

World AIDS Day is a moment to honour those we've lost, support those living with HIV, and renew our commitment to ending stigma and inequality. It reminds us that with compassion, awareness, and access to care, an HIV-free future is within reach.

Our CEO Melissa, Hive Program Manager Naima, and board member Danielle proudly attended the Thrive Red Scarf Gala to celebrate World AIDS Day, standing in solidarity with communities affected by HIV. Their presence reflects our continued commitment to awareness, compassion, and ending HIV stigma.

Today, December 1st marks World AIDS Day & Indigenous AIDS Awareness Week.

It’s a day to remember people we’ve lost to AIDS-related illnesses, stand with people living with HIV today, and recognize the decades of activism that continue to shape HIV care, rights, and community support.

December 1–7 also marks Indigenous AIDS Awareness Day/Week, a time to honour the leadership, resilience, and lived experiences of Indigenous Peoples living with and affected by HIV, and to recognize the Indigenous-led knowledge, healing, and community care that continue to guide HIV responses across Canada.

The Guelph Community Health Centre has partnered with local women to create a cookbook filled with nourishing recipes designed to support postpartum recovery.

Enjoy a catered lunch, browse the cookbook (available on a sliding scale of $10–$30), and connect with your community. Free childcare is available during the event.
