We don’t post things often on social media - you have enough to filter through on a regular basis. But when we do post, it’s important…

For our followers in our home area of Guelph, Ontario and surrounding areas. As you are probably well aware, we are under a special air quality statement due to wildfire smoke. If you are pregnant, you are an at-risk population. The top pollutant in smoke - PM2.5 - will affect your health and your fetus’ health and development. All children, especially infants, are also very vulnerable to this dangerous pollutant.

Please protector yourself by staying indoors as much as possible. If you go outdoors, wear an N95 mask any time your local air quality health index (AQHI) is 4 or higher. You can also check the PM2.5 rating - over 35 and you should wear an N95 mask. Please remember - as a pregnant person, you are an “at risk” population.

There’s a wonderful chill in the air, and we’ve had some wonderful snow over the past few days. We love this time of year but as the layers come out, things can get complicated with little ones. Ever tried putting mittens on a baby? That is a full time job all by itself!

So to answer that important question above… how do snowsuits and carseats go together? Here’s the easy answer for you - THEY DON’T! It is very important to know that puffy coats, car seat liners, snow suits, etc have no place in carseats.

Here are some important reminders as we head into the winter months…
~Dress your child/infant in multiple thin warm layers, such as fleece, to wear UNDER the harness
~Puffy coats and snowsuits are very dangerous in carseats as it is impossible to tighten the harness straps adequately
~Layer blankets, capes, etc over top of the harness straps once your child is safely buckled in. This will ensure the warm layers are not interfering with the function of the harness.
~Car seat covers that go over the top of the harness straps are safe to use. Do not use carseat liners that go between the bottom carseat and your baby. These are not safe.

We take an in-depth look at carseat safety in our prenatal classes, sharing all of our practical tips, important safety information, and answer all of your questions. Sign up today for an upcoming course.

We had a bright, strong, fun prenatal/mother/maternal figure/woman themed post all ready to go for International Women’s Day. But it just didn’t seem appropriate in light of current events. And so today, we want to recognize the incredible women of Ukraine. The babas who have lived a lifetime of hardship and continue to care for those around them, the teachers continuing classes for their young students in bunkers, the mothers escaping with their children, the women risking their lives to guide strangers’ children to safety, the women becoming first-time mothers in bomb shelters, the women working tirelessly as volunteers to help everyone around them, the women in neighbouring countries leaving strollers at train stations… the list goes on and on. Today we honour you.
