DYE! DYE! Decolonise your Ears right now!
Decolonising theatre means expressing culturally specific ideas, mythologies, music, and dance; Indigenous, Black and racialised bodies occupying space in celebration of our unique identities; and subverting rigid hierarchies in favour of a more equitable approach. The festival provides artists with time to explore their voices, develop their practices, and explore lesser-known cultural forms without having to negotiate, conform, or squeeze into parameters they did not choose.
Over its five-year history, the festival has become a vital platform for IBPOC voices in Canadian theatre, previously showcasing works that explore queer-Muslim identity, South Asian diaspora experiences, and Black Caribbean storytelling traditions.
