Since the 1950s, Ontario has allowed the chemical burning and poisoning of public forests and Treaty Territories without consent, ignoring fierce and sustained opposition, while communities, wildlife, and waterways bear the impacts, all under the label of “forest management,” later rebranded as “sustainable.” 🙄
Now the science used to justify this harm has been exposed as bogus.
A key study long relied on to claim glyphosate was “safe” has been retracted after being shown to be industry-tainted and ghostwritten. That means governments have been approving and DEFENDING this harmful practice based on bad science and corporate influence, not public health. Not environmental health.
And instead of fixing the system, Canada is now talking about weakening pesticide protections even further?
Choosing lobbyists over people.
Over Indigenous rights.
Over wildlife and water.
Communities have been warning about this since the 1980s.
Indigenous resolutions ignored.
Science ignored.
The 1999 federal report ignored.
Enough.
Municipalities are standing up. Awareness is spreading in Ontario.
Public pressure is working, and it is the reason this fight is changing.
Quebec proved chemical-free forestry is possible when they banned Forest Herbicide Spraying.
Ontario has no excuses left.
