Lucy Maria Duke, a resident of New Liskeard, Ontario, passed away on March 19, 2026, at the age of 82. Born in Utrecht (Maartensdijk), Holland, to Adrianus and Wilhelmina (née Van Steenbergen) Dirks, Lucy's life was defined by a bold spirit of adventure and a deep commitment to family and community.

A Life of Adventure and Service

A true entrepreneur, Lucy began her professional journey with KLM Airlines in Holland before joining the family business, Wellington Way Travel, in Markham. In 1975, she and the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry), made a courageous move from Markham to Thornloe, Ontario, to purchase a dairy farm. She embraced the farm life that raised her family and cultivated many enduring friendships within the community.

Lucy's professional legacy is highlighted by her many years as the Chief Business Administrator for 4-H Ontario. Her lifetime of service was recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, a testament to her profound contributions to the organization.

Passions and Community

Lucy was a woman of many talents and deep faith. As a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL), she was a pillar of her church and a steadfast support to Larry in his role as Deacon. A prolific knitter, sewer, and member of the Temiskaming Quilters Guild, she created beauty with her hands while keeping her mind sharp with technology and finance.

She was a formidable card player and a master of Scrabble and Words with Friends. Often the life of the party—likely with a glass of Pinot Grigio in hand—she cherished laughter and the company of close friends. Whether she was cruising, wintering in Florida, or participating in the LABO Japanese exchange program, Lucy embraced the world. However, she was always happiest near the water, enjoying boat rides and time with Larry at their trailer on the lake.

Family and Heritage

Above all, Lucy was a proud "Oma" who spoiled her eight grandchildren and worked tirelessly to share her Dutch heritage with her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Larry Duke, and her sister, Anne (Ronald) Bailey. She leaves behind a lasting legacy through her children: Christopher (Elise Robitaille), Andrea (Hugh Hamilton), and Matthew (Nicki) Duke.

Her memory will be cherished by her grandchildren: Emma (fiancé Jesse), Jacob, Isabelle, Alexander (Makinley), Erica, Andrew, Justin (keyla) , and Claudia (fiancé Eric). Lucy also loved her nieces and nephews—David (Susan) Bailey, Ian (Sarah) Logan, Robert (Sue) Logan, Jennifer Bailey (Dave Baerg), and Jodi (Michael) Harker—as her own. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Elisabeth (William) Logan.

Jeanne was a cat lover, always having a feline companion, and was also an avid knitter who could knit up a sweater in just 2 days.

Jeanne always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it be her own children, her grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, she was always adamant that she "loved you more."

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, Susan Larocque, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She passed away peacefully at the age of 73 in Temiskaming Hospital due to complications from surgery in late February.

Born on May 29, 1952 in Toronto, Ontario, Susan (Sue) was a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, and cherished friend. She lived a life rooted in family, hard work, sacrifice and love. She touched the lives of all who knew her. Sue thoroughly enjoyed her life living in many different places across Canada and the United States with our Dad from New Liskeard to Copper Cliff to Regina and from Pittsburgh, PA to Fort Myers, FL. She was proud of her career in banking and her transition to entrepreneurship upon her return to Northern Ontario and ultimately retiring as a Nurse. Mom also found fulfillment in supporting her community with her many volunteer endeavors such as her long time Lioness involvement, many years as a judge of the annual New Liskeard Fall Fair Harvest Queen Pageant and always available to support the towns many special events. Our mom so enjoyed retirement in the warm sunshine of Florida and golfing with our Dad.

She is survived by her children, Jodie (Alex Catterick) and Trevor, grandchildren, Julia and Thomas Catterick, Sofia and Sebastian Larocque, her brother Bernie Mercier (Peri Thib) and sister Debbie Bates (Percy), sister-in-law Debra Prentice (Al), brother-in-law Marty Larocque (Debbie Bolger), sister-in-law Karen Heroux (Shawn Garlic) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Blain Larocque, her siblings, Mark, Peter, and Steven, her parents Sharon and Romeo Mercier and in-laws Truda and Gordon Larocque.

Our mom found joy in gardening, walking and being outside in the warm sunshine. She especially loved family gatherings, holidays and time with her grandchildren. She loved her time over the past decade in retirement in Fort Myers, FL and traveling across the US and her two trips to Europe – United Kingdom and what she called her trip of a lifetime in Italy.

A service in memory of Sue's life will be held on March 20, 2026, from 2-4 pm at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in New Liskeard, Ontario, 251 Shepherdson Road.

We are truly grateful for the care provided by the nurses, especially Cathy Lee, the ICU department, hospital staff and Dr. Scott and Dr. Davies for their tremendous kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, a donation made to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org or the Alzheimer Society of Canada www.alzheimer.ca would be sincerely appreciated.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Marlayna Mignacco
1967 - 2026

Marlayna Mignacco, a true angel on earth, passed away peacefully on February 28th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and a heart full of melody. Born on August 24, 1967, at St. Mary's Hospital in Timmins, Ontario, Marlayna lived every day with a radiant happiness that touched everyone she met.

Marlayna was the cherished daughter of Molly Mignacco and the late Ron Mignacco. Marlayna and her mother were side by side in all of life's journeys, as Molly was truly the centre of Marlayna's life. She is survived by her sister Dawn, who she shared an inseparable bond with; the two affectionately called each other "Dodo," a name that carried a lifetime of sisterly love and shared secrets. Marlayna is now reunited in peace with her dad, late brothers, Paul and Frank Mignacco, and her Auntie Phillis (her best friend).

Family was the center of Marlayna's world. She was the devoted aunt of her cherished nephew, John Ross Thib—whom she fondly referred to as ("my little deet"), and his loving wife, Brianna. She also carried a great fondness for her brother-in-law, John Thib. Her joy only grew with the arrival of her great-nieces, Lainey and Leighton Thib and her nephew puppy, Sully ("that boy"), whom she adored beyond measure.

Marlayna is survived by the Zimperi's joined not by blood but by a lifelong bond as siblings. She is also survived by her sister-at-heart and Cuz Paula, Brenda (her childhood friend), who grew up with Marlayna and remained a constant in her life, and her special friendship with Kendra, a bright and shining light who brought so much happiness and laughter to her days. She will be deeply missed by her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.

A vibrant soul, Marlayna was a passionate fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. She found immense joy in listening to music, which served as the soundtrack to a life lived with great happiness.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Blanche River Health (Englehart Site) and a special thanks to Dr. Amanda Corbeil, who offered exceptional care and support that will never be forgotten. Their dedication went above and beyond to ensure Marlayna's stay was a truly happy and comfortable experience.

Funeral Mass: A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Englehart, Ontario, at 11:00 am on March 7th. Following the mass, family and friends are invited to remain at the church for a luncheon and a time to share memories of Marlayna's beautiful life.

Donations: In honour of Marlayna's bright spirit, donations to the Blanche River Health Foundation (Englehart Site) are welcomed.
