There’s growing momentum among internationally trained physicians, especially UK GPs, considering a move to Canada. Across our networks, we’re seeing a steady increase in warm leads and active candidates exploring the possibility of calling our communities home.
So, what’s driving this interest?
The British Medical Association recently issued a stark warning about a deepening GP unemployment crisis in the UK. Systemic barriers, limited funded posts, and underemployment are leaving many newly qualified GPs feeling undervalued and uncertain about their future. These concerns have been echoed in our one-on-one conversations, many physicians are simply seeking a place where they can practice meaningfully and feel appreciated.
That’s why events like the UK GP recruitment popup, hosted by Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance are so valuable. The majority of attendees are already actively planning their relocation to Canada, with timelines ranging from the next few months to within the year.
At previous events, they came eager to speak with communities from across Ontario (lining up for the event before the doors opened!!) asking about schools, neighborhoods, practice models, immigration pathways, financial incentives, and moving logistics. Many expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to gather so much information in one place.
As a result, our pipeline of dedicated, skilled family physicians continues to grow, driven by those ready to build fulfilling lives and careers here in Canada.
